Housing... Would you be upset if?...

If SE were to announce they were going to redo housing to make it better (whatever it may be), but they would be taking all the current housing away and reimbursing everyone their money for their house/plot to rework it, would you be upset or welcome the changes coming (provided they actually came out with a better housing system)?

It can't possibly ever support the number of people that want housing the way it's currently set up. Honestly, I think the biggest mistake was combining personal and FC housing. Personal housing should have been instanced from the get-go.

Changing it now would make me pretty unhappy, because some of my furnishings aren't easily replaceable.

One thing I notice frequently is the devs overestimating how sociable people generally are. They never seemed to consider people wouldn't just hang around house zones and chat. They'd either just stay closed off with their friends/FC or stick to the major cities. At this point, they really need to find an actual solution not just band-aids.

I do wonder if this could be a culture difference. Japanese gamers actually like exclusivity, whereas Western gamers utterly abhor it.

Honestly, my FC members and members from another nearby FC chat pretty often and visit each others' houses. I think that if there were more FC's in the surrounding houses (instead of them being personally owned) that there would be more interaction at places like market boards/summoning bells; basically the same places that see a lot of traffic in towns. I often craft out near the market board and summoning bell or up at the vendor simply to see if I can garner any casual conversation with people as they wander by.

I never really thought of that (I don't know much about Japanese culture tbh) but it's a definite possibility.

I have several major problems with it.

1. As far as I can tell, you can't actually modify what the external house looks like - just size/decorations/lawn ornaments
2. Inside of houses are separate instances, so people spend much less time inside the house than outside
3. They are rare, so only a very small portion of the community has them
4. They cost a fortune

Personally, I liked Wildstar's system, but I feel it could be improved upon too.

I can't say as, well, I don't have a house. If they sent all of your furniture, permanent or not to an NPC for how many days it would take them to build the new housing + 30 days, along with a full gil refund I don't see why people would be opposed to it.

If the reimbursement was fair to current home owners and the changes included a way for the demand for housing plots to be filled, then I would be content. I would be thrilled if it did both those things and added more options/features to the housing system.

If they were going to guarantee housing for everyone who wants it, and I was fully compensated for the house, plot, and everything we've spent to upgrade and improve it, then yes.

But I doubt they'd compensate us for all the gil, time, and effort we've sunk into the place.
