It really doesn't matter in leveling content. Job level and item level make far more difference than your choice of +50-ish STR over VIT in 1-49. Once you hit 50 and beyond, you can decide if you want to deal twice as much damage or have 50% more HP.

I leveled pal/war in full vit gear with all bonus points in vit without any issues.
As mentioned previously keeping left side up to date will be your best defence. Keeping weapon up to date will be your best agro boost.
Right side what ever drops will be fine.

Learning boss abilities and class skills will help as well.

Yeah you can still keep aggro even in these conditions, but using STR makes it easier while shortening the fight. VIT does nothing at all.

I would put points on VIT as a DRK or WAR, because most accessory gear below 50 (in my experience) is going to be strength. It will give healers some breathing room either for dps or in case they are bad. PLD however has low damage and better defensives so I'd go STR points on it. I regret leveling my PLD as full VIT, it was horrible... On the other hand I currently have no problem with aggro or damage as a DRK so I try to have VIT for big pulls.

Gear-wise, it's basically whatever you can get your hands on. Left side is far more important to keep up to date. Right side just whatever drops and whatever has a higher item level.

I'm currently leveling PLD and am going full strength. No problems so far.

actully in lvl 1 to 50 dont matter at all what accesories you choose because they dont give you stats to make a diference, in thats lvls the most think you need is the best weapon and left gear you can get in dungeons or grand company and use sword and shield oath when you get it.

in lvl 50-60 yeah str can help you much more because accesories give you a good chunk of str, so for lvling dont matter what accesories you get, if you see vit or str take it both and have a mix of str or vit, or full str.

BUT the most importan think to keep agro is know your class, and pray high dps dont join to you party if you are 1º time with a tank class in neverreap or fractal and you are low geared ^^

From a PLD point of view at least, I had no issues at all keeping hate leveling except for a brief stint very early on, and even there it wasn't really a problem as long as you focus and tab your targets to see who has how much enmity on what. But basically, you never need more enmity while leveling with the very small (and very debatable) exception of a few levels you can zip past in a couple of hours. I should add that at such low levels tabbing is really easy, because you don't do massive pulls, and will almost never have more than four or five mobs to tab through if you want to keep a check on the enmity meter. You do want to try and make sure you have "decent" gear though - the Grand Company weapons and armor are free, and significantly better than most everything else at low levels. If you use those you'll be fine as long as you don't forget to keep an eye on your UI (a good practice for any situation, not just low levels).

I see no reason to use strength after that while leveling either. Min-Maxing is fun, but you don't get any rigorous DPS checks leveling up where everyone has to chip in to pass content. What you do get, however, is all sorts of wacky pick up parties - and some of those wacky parties are pretty awful. The extra vitality you get is "more than you need" with a decent healer, sure, but it's not more than you need with a bad one. And you'll get bad ones. You'll also get perfectly normal one's who have connection problems at bad times, because it's an online game and that stuff happens. While leveling, there are few strict mechanics that will one-hit wipe you. Instead, most kills are simply because you ran out of HP over the course of a few hits, or over the course of a mechanic + the subsequent hit or two. The extra hp from your vitality gear is almost always enough to let you take one more decent hit, and, if you're able to stay alive in one fight where you'd otherwise have died, you will almost certainly save your party much more time than whatever few seconds you would have shaved off the run with extra dps from strength gear.

Once you hit the level cap, by all means pick up a set of strength gear for situational use. While leveling though, it's just not needed or worth it.

Go STR. As long as you are wearing up to date gear no healer should have trouble keeping you alive.

STR all the way. There isn't a dungeon while levelling that even remotely requires a turtle tank. Do keep your gear up to date though. Defense >>>>>>>>>>>> VIT.

Nothing in a levelling dungeon will one-shot you unless it's something you should be able to dodge, so your survivability is ONLY a matter of if your healer can keep up, which defense will help you with, and VIT basically won't.

Stone Vigil would like a word. Show up to that in "up to date" STR gear from leveling, and you're gonna have a bad time. The extra VIT really helps.

Also, you should never rely on your healers being super crazy geared. Giving them as much wiggle room as possible ought to be best practice, especially while leveling (and if you'd tell a new healer who queued in leveling gear to "git gud", please leave this game right now and don't come back).
