I like flying because it allows the designers to be very lazy with the overworld, as it will be marginalized and largely ignored once flying is unlocked, a few hotspots aside. Moreover, since the maps are bigger and there are no set travel routes, it greatly reduces the chance to meet other players, which is great for people who just want to be left alone.

I guess you're being sarcastic? But Heavensward areas are the most beautiful areas in FFXIV in my honest opinion, the huge scale of everything makes it feel like a world, and seeing your nothing but an ant in comparison to Alexander is quite an intimidating feeling. Whereas with ARR, everything felt enclosed and small, I only wish they'd apply that large scale thinking to cities...

Only using pictures of this area because I'm too lazy to log back in and I happen to have them.

I honestly agree with Zojha (no it's not sarcasm: I'm being legit) on the areas being utterly lazy and bland. I mean for starters you CANNOT land anywhere that's not plain "land" so for example I can't land on anything that's on a irregular terrain or just...anything that's not plain grass or ground. Flying does also makes interaction smaller: you hardly see others flying around and considering that you don't need to move anywhere for doing the important things, such as dungeons and trials (although for Alex you still need to go there, I guess), most of the people will stack up in Idylshire. Flying it's just, like someone responded to me, "a slower way to go from point A to point B" and unless you really want to explore properly, people will always go for the fastest method of travel, which is teleport.

Yes I do agree that the areas are big and the size is amazing and whatever you want to add here but the smallers areas of ARR felt more alive than HW right because people were easy to see and to interact with.

    Just like a proper MMORPG!

    This is an MMORPG right?

You can't teleport from one FATE to the next FATE.
I'm sure with 3.15 and the new relic quest you will see more flying characters who are not on a DoL class.

Er... what? They actually have to be more thorough in putting the new areas together, since they have to take into account that things will be viewed from above, behind, etc. Compare that to the mountains in CCH, where if you glitch off the map and run behind them you find out that the back sides of them don't actually exist and those trees over there are completely two-dimensional. xD

Erm...that is usually an extra step you do in order to reduce system load. They could've just put the regular stuff they already have in the rest of the zone there, you know? Would've been easier, but harder on your system.
