Market Wards

Had a raging moment on Wutai Server tonight. I went into the Market Ward to see what the prices were on low level shields. I am raising Gladiator for Sentinel for my Disciple of Magic.

Level 5, 11, 16,17,18,19 ALL 100k.

I have the gil to pay for that, but I didn't. How can a new player possibly afford that. By the time they get that gil, they'll be well past those levels.

I believe the Market Wards should have a blacklist feature, for greedy people.

The retainers should have the player's name on the menu while looking at the retainer's list. Add that person's name to your list, or a menu in the wards, and their npc can't sell you things. If enough people black list the player, their retainer should be ejected from the wards.

Their overpriced items help no one for one thing, their retainer take up space for other people who may by willing to sell the same item for a more reasonable price.

Some people don't use that amazing thing we were blessed with called a brain, and they need to start using it. 100k for a level 5 shield are you kidding me? Scum of the Wards, be glad I don't know who you are.

I agree that people shouldn't be charging an arm and a leg for low level gear, and I'm even cool with making it so you knew who had which retainers, but the blacklist/boot retainer idea's probably taking it too far. Honestly, the best way to 'teach the greedy people' is to do what you did and NOT buy from them. If they can't sell it for 100K, sooner or later they will drop the price (or be undercut by someone who is like 'Dude this is not worth 100K, I'm selling it for 20K')

The reason the 'blacklist retainer=booted retainer' thing wouldn't work is because players could take advantage of it. Especially if your name was attached to your retainer. For example, one ls hates another ls, they know the main crafter of the other ls's retainers name, they all gang up on his retainers, blacklist him, and his retainers get booted. Or new gears with rare mats come out. The crafters don't like paying premiums for the rare mat, they all black list the retainers with the mats until the price drops below value...but then they craft the wares and the community does the same to them. It just is too easy to abuse. The free market system does actually work and slowly fix this problem.

That being said, I think it would be cool to know who's retainers you're buying from or to be able to look up wares by characters because then you could know for sure you were buying from linkshell mates, friends etc. (my linkshell mates and friends make me stuff for free and won't take my gils so I try to buy from them in secret when I can lol). It would also however, help NOT buy from people who were' greedy'

Lastly, back to you actual problem: Yeah I've noticed it is very difficult to find low level gear at a fair price right now too. But I also know this is due to 'materia fever' once this materia crafting crazy dies down, and people know what gears=best materia results AND they start crafting gears across the player levels again, prices will come back down.
