Haha so true. I often don't even notice what race people are, nevermind their glamour :\

I subbed in for a static yesterday (mostly FC members, but a few non), and the other SMN in the party was a Lalafell. I didn't notice until we had already played together for over 2 hours. :\

Well, to be fair, it is easy to overlook a Lalafell...

Yep, I think maybe you have. :P

    Serious point to be made, and I am not directing this at you (Nav_Fae) because I'm pretty well sure you're kidding and making point about Balmung...however;

Honestly, I cringe whenever I hear someone, seriously remarking on some glamour or other being for the purposes of ERP. Such assumptions are baseless and mired in the internal thoughts and bias of the person espousing them. I think it's so sad that so many people today when they see a bikini clad character immediately make assumptions about the character, and the player(s).

Sometimes (most often?) a bikini is just a bikini, no more than a decorative bra and panties you wear to the beach... or wherever else you want to. I mean would the same people pre-judging others for wearing a bikini top, or full bikini in-game, walk up to a bikini clad woman on the beach and accuse her of just wanting to ERP?

In an online game, is VERY important (if not the most important) to feel unique, feel different and that people recognize you. And its OK to want to be the protagonist or part of the team of main characters of the world even if there are other people there.

This is an MMO that don't have horizontal progress and skill trees, so its difficult for people to feel like a snowflake reaching the level cap

So, people have few choices to stick out of everyone else. One way are the parse people that need the urge to be the MOST powerful DPS, to be the best stance for enmity juggle, to have the best skill rotation, to be the first to finish new content and so on. Again, this is OK, is trying to beat a goal.

But those are ways not so easy to differentiate day by day. Glamours are a more visual customization, so, character hair, race, skin color and gear/job are the most easy to differentiate even when just standing in a crowded area waiting for a duty (or just waiting to brag your latest minion or mount)

So yeah, glamour is endgame, and one more accessible (basically everyone) instead of comparing your e-peen and brag about how you finished coil before nerfs.

Simple example, when someone says in chat/forum/etc that they finished a pre nerf dungeon... NOBODY CARES... if you post a glamour people will see you and if you are using a not so usual piece of gear, someone will ask you where you got it... (and its usually in outdated content or class restricted)

So basically, finishing content gives you gear to glamour so you can be recognized in an online game. There, glamours are true MMO endgame (until we have actual horizontal progression)

    Makes Sense ;D

Anyone can clear any content if they smash their head against it for X amount of hours, but looking good while doing it? Priceless

Wanna know why glamour is the true end game? You either farm in the same dungeon or raid over and over until RNG blesses you or you bust your butt trying to gather all the hard to get/make materials so you can craft that pretty dress you wanted. That's more work than learning how to do savage or ex primals.

    Well

I'm one of those people-watchers; I "Examine" people all the time, whether I walk past them, if they're in my DF party...whenever
I look at people's gear and glamour combos all the time. Constantly.

If I'm standing near you I've probably looked at you. (also probably judging you hardcore)

If glamour is a such an important part of end game, then I say the devs should really focus on developing better collection and inventory interface support.
