Low server population.. yet SE wants to be stingy?

It's annoying that a subscription game requires people to repurchase the base game or expansions for different platforms.
FFXIV should be buy once, pay the sub, play anywhere.

It could be greed, but perhaps it's an accounting problem, which is why SE only offered the upgrade as part of a limited promotion and used a marketing budget to pay for it. Sales of the games are probably tracked as separate items per console, and the subscription is handled separately. So, SE records a sale of the PS3 game. But later you want to play on PS4. Does that mean SE takes a loss for the value of the PS4 game? Who's paying for that loss? Does SE have to pay the PS4 console license on top of giving you the game for free? Are PS3 FFXIV sales a liability that eventually cut into PS4's profits?

Probably you have to pay twice because of something dumb related to how console fees and accounting works. Get it on PC next time.

As someone on a dying server, can SE really afford to lose long time players in this situation- it will take me 6m to a year to resub and get the game on p4 :[

I was unable to buy a ps4 when the transfer was available. Technically I still cant buy one- its a gift. The 100$ is a figure that generously under cuts the actual cost. Unfortunately my country's dollar is so low compared to the U.S. atm and everything about this game is U.S. based when it comes to purchase. The DDL will probably 65$ [I last saw ARR for 24.99]. But the subscription alone was 120 last time and I will be due for an update soon and with bills/whatnot literally living paycheck to paycheck it is a lot to ask someone to restructure for rebuying a game.. Anyways- money is tight and this just seems like a stab and grab for the transfer to not be available for next gen. consoles.

Some players transferred. Not all of them good lol. From my FL, LSs, and FC I can see that a lot of these transfers would be new character if they are even still playing. Havent encountered a real noob in a very loooong time. I did some server searching checking out different data centers and servers.. there wasn't much of a population difference.. I think it was Ultros that had a population similar to famfrit before people disappeared

I personally think ps3 support should be cut however all licenses on accounts on ps3 should be allowed to be transferred to ps4/pc one of the two for free with say a month free sub for the inconvenience...

SE think of the games future and your long time customers hire the ffXI crew and ffxiv could become truly amazing. fyi I have seen quite a few mmorpgs with better graphics then this course they are pay to win free to play and all but ffxiv could be amazing if it could move forward by dropping what they claim as an excuse, ps3 limitations.

Like really the world of tech keeps moving forward and to be competitive you need to keep with the times.

my advice to SE merge all teams that still work that have made any of the final fantasy titles heck could make many expansions meaning yes we have to buy but the content would be far more than now.

Shame they didn't keep the free PS3 to PS4 upgrade in effect. It's the same platform and an upgraded console shouldn't require buying a new game. I don't think that is required when people update their PC's.

Are you going to buy ALL those people a ps4/PC TO upgrade to? For many, a good rig, or a new console isn't within the budget of their livelihood yet, 400+ dollars is A LOT of money. 12.99/m is vastly more affordable than that.

With FFXI you never had to buy the game more then once. Example...one time my graphics card died and while I waited for a week for the replacement I played on my brothers PS2, did not need to rebuy anything. Game was already installed...just logged in and played. You never needed to buy more then one key for FFXI...

You did if you went PC -> Xbox though. Or PC ---> PS2 or PS2 --> Xbox. Just not if you went Xbox --> PC or PS2 --> PC. (Rather, you had to have the physical disks to install and play the games on those platforms.)

SE basically granted a blanket PC license to anyone who had the PS2 or Xbox license on their accounts. They opted not to do that with XIV.

Okay I kind of have to be a bit of a downer when I say this, but why is it okay that people will rebuy the same game on multiple consoles/mobile and be 100% okay with it, but the second its an MMO the whole world is gonna end?

The developers spent time, energy and money making this game for other platforms, they should be able to charge what they want.. Your subscription fees go towards server upkeep and character space.
Thats like saying I should get a console game for free because I bought its microtransactions/DLC ....

As someone else said it was not like this for XI, as long as you had an account it didn't matter which platform you were on as long as you had an install.

On topic, this game charges per platform. It has been like this for a long time.
