I actually made a post a while back about adding a Painter/Pictomancer Job, which was essentially the DoW version of this. Where they acted like Relm from FF6, using their portraits to act as a sort of Blue Mage. Which I think would be more awesome than just adding in the usual Blue Mage Job itself.
1. Glowing paint: paint that illuminates the player.
2. Tangible Toad saliva paint (idk make a name, maybe Goo paint): Paint that seems to come off as you move but never leaves the armor.
3. Battle Conveniance paint: paint that changes color based on your character's status. (bad status effects will show as purple) near death will show as fading red red, White would show as full health.
4. Awareness paint: Glows when a nearby monster is in close proximity (maybe for hunts, other monsters not so much :/ )
5. Aether paint: only applicable to weapons, changes the color of weapon effects when applied
6. Enmity Paint: Grants more enmity to a player (just an idea, maybe only outside of instances)
7. Body Paint: makes your character look like a certain set of characters (all premade)
Just a few ideas of new paint along with colors. System limitations, unless you have a book or list of things SE can't do lets just keep that out of the discussion, it barely makes sense at this point (not you Colorful, that's for the other people who makes that excuse). And the useless class thing, yea I suppose people would say that...but whats the point doing any crafter class now that crafting gear for battle classes are useless as its only for glamour and cosmetics.
Most of the gear you get from esos or diadem is BIS (Not that I give a crap about that), the only reason you'd wear crafted gear is for more crafter and gatherer stuff which its mostly used for. You don't need crafted gear when leveling unless you don't know where the shops are that give you gear for certain levels (which I'd recommend finding if you level multple classes) and would eventually become useless gear as you'd have esos and law to grind soon after. Crafter so far is only useful because SE made it desirably used, like the workshop requiring crafters who need gatherers to give them something to do other than make gil for more cosmetics and glamour. This new class would be for the same thing, but bluntly so. Plus I mentioned schematics, I'm sure every class could use one to make something very useful like a special airship part, a type of weapon or armor of sorts.
Not quite what I was thinking.
Your player can be "lit up" in the settings menu in a sense, as for them to radiate light? That would get annoying rather quick I'd imagine, and you would immediately have a few dozen threads requesting the ability to turn this off. We're not playing an MMO made in the early 2000s that compensate for bad visuals with for overly flashy items.
Uh, I don't really see the point to this? But I mean if someone wants to look like they've drowned in Goobbue snot more power to them.Tangible Toad saliva paint (idk make a name, maybe Goo paint): Paint that seems to come off as you move but never leaves the armor.
Don't see how this would help in anyway, all that information is presented nicely in the nicely in the UI.Battle Conveniance paint: paint that changes color based on your character's status. (bad status effects will show as purple) near death will show as fading red red, White would show as full health.
A hunt tracker may be useful, but considering the world is littered with monsters you'd be glowing 90% of the time.Awareness paint: Glows when a nearby monster is in close proximity (maybe for hunts, other monsters not so much :/ )
Could quite easily be done without creating an entire class, an example being WoW's "toys" where you use a consumable and that converts you to a character. As for transforming into an NPC, that's not going to happen as their intention is to sell NPC armour and hairstyles on the cash shop.Body Paint: makes your character look like a certain set of characters (all premade)
I don't really know, this class idea seems like nothing but a gimmick to me. It's a "I want this because it sounds cool, but I have no clue as to how it would function and what purpose it would serve" kind of thing. There are just many better ways to spend development time on that isn't an entire new class that could be minor additions to other classes, for example the "glowing paint" could be an alchemist potion that makes your skin radiate with a bright light (I'm still opposed to the idea in that it would be very annoying). As for armour, what possible armour could a Painter make? That brings me back to my other point, there are plenty of other options such as an Engineer, they could manufacture things ranging from airship parts, minions, toys, items that could be used in battle such as grenades, etc.
I feel like a negative nancy, but that's just my opinion of this whole suggestion.
Like the augmented cashmere robe? Who said it'd look bad anyway?

Like that, its glamour mostly, and yeah more power to them.
The name speaks for itself, convenience paint. Its just convenient, besides, if you want to see more on your screen ad turn off the UI you have the armor to make up for it. Works like a charm.Don't see how this would help in anyway, all that information is presented nicely in the nicely in the UI.
I specifically put (maybe for hunt monsters, other monsters not so much :/ ) which is the reason I was referring too. It glowing 24/7 would be confusing.A hunt tracker may be useful, but considering the world is littered with monsters you'd be glowing 90% of the time.
You actually want that to be place in the class shop and not offered to the player for free? ....Okay. :/Could quite easily be done without creating an entire class, an example being WoW's "toys" where you use a consumable and that converts you to a character. Well for one, yes, the class is a gimmick, as well as classes like alchemist. Its for those who love glamour and cosmetics alot more, as well as a few other items involved with the schematics the class could make which would make the class more convenient (I'll get to that later). The alchemist thing.... I don't even. I didn't say your skin would glow, who would even. I meant your armor, in any specific color you want. Nothing extremely flashy, but maybe a fading type effect. Painters and or idealists had to come up with styles to begin with, armor types didn't come out of the blue, so I don't know what your not getting when I say they can paint schematics of weapons and armor. Here's an example for you:I don't really know, this class idea seems like nothing but a gimmick to me. Did not draw this^
Now engineer, what even, we can already make airship parts with every class, we can make minions with every class, we can make a toy music box with gsm, and we have grenades as a weapon for machinist which they pull out of their satchels or invisible inventory (not to mention alchemists make poisons for damage and other status effects). Now you keep saying about how the developers should spend their time but they decided to make LoV (which is a mini attraction to spend time with and another way to make mgp) and Diadem (which is a convenient armor grind with a questionable exploration concept). What exactly do YOU want them to spend time with and thats a rhetorical question. Please make another thread about what they should be spending time with instead of subtly saying that this is a pointless idea. Thnx for your opinion.

Honestly the class would also need to be able to make much more, say useable useless stuff like sparklers, fireworks, special effects and just a wide variety of "Oh why not" to make them worth while, useless sure but same thing as glamour its just to have fun, why people (least I know myself) bought 99 of each firework and big bang from the anniversary the day before it left. It doesn't have to have a purpose for people to want it and level it. I know I'd level it myself.
you wanna smack ifrit in the head with a nice rembrandt? such a shame ...
I do like the idea of crafting classes for other things besides battle. But they probably need to expand on housing or something, everyone is just buying that one thing for that one place.
It is a cool concept, but prob better as a combat class. Maybe a Blue mage style?
No, it's a valid concern because you are talking about a class that, as part of the appeal in this thread, is making paintings. Paintings go in houses. How few players have access to private houses, or FC houses? (And for FC houses, how many are filled to the brim with the item limit and may not want to take X item down to put Y painting up?)
It's still on-topic.
