Why not battle paint buff items so it makes it relevant for combat classes? Could give buffs and stack with food.

I think we are missing a clear idea that a painter DoH class could do, tattoos. A lot of people like the gear that has tattoos added to their designs and a painter or rather artist can do that. I think the name painter is what might be throwing people off but if you think about all thr things an artidt can do you get a lot more than just paintings and dies.

Tattoo designs for head, body arms and legs
    House paintings
    Outdoor sculptures
    Outdoor murals
    Dyes (new ones)
    Sculpture minions
New mats in the form or crafting dyes (for crafters to use, not us), turpentine, blown glass, painted silks, paper, etc
If we ever get "buffing" items for the jobs, artists can make new cards for Astro, talismans for Ninja

And I am sure there are other items that could be added, but my well has run dry, T.T

I like helping people with their Job ideas, it's fun to help them visuallize and create the job they'd like to play most. Plus I make my own too, I'll post them eventually.

I thought it was meant in a sort of social way. Like painting art for houses and other things. Like we now have music instruments, but you cant play notes and thus no music.

So when i say "expand on housing or whatever" i mean something like "you want to have a museum or whatever?" I also like the idea of sculpture making, why not make your own for a garden? Or have a contest for those who are into it and place a player made sculpture in the housing areas through an SE event. Art is everywhere, so why not put some of it in the game, staring with paintings.

Emblems for weapons, mainly shields. Maybe summoner and scholar weapons. Pieces of crafts for other crafts. Furniture in the form of paintings and such. Tattoos. Maybe items. Best thing would be emblems that add abilities or increase stats as a new piece of armor but that's either too much work, more responsibilities to add, or a pain to balance (or all of the above).

I played a game once that had a painter crafting class and the paintings gave you buffs like the food does here.

Somehow I'd don;t think the devs are gonna add any more DoL/H jobs, so I think the Artist class would be better serve as a DoM job

What if the painter had the ability to make additional glamours? Like designs that layer on top of existing armor or change the pattern on it? Let's face it, most of the armor pieces don't really go together unless you get the whole set.

Aside from all the other uses with dyes people mentioned, they could allow for more in-depth coloring options. Currently when you dye an armor, multiple parts are colored as well that you don't want or some parts remain uncolored that you wish were (EX: Augmented Healer Robe AF1). Considering this games glamour focal points, I think that a class that can be used to self enhance or self-color to own desire could be huge. Designing Tattoos would be another really big thing if the users can do it themselves. Thats a whole new market entirely.

As for paintings in houses or tattoos, imagine if you could make designs from irl tablet drawings. Frankly, I'd argue, a Artist or Painter style class is largely missing from a game like this.

Hey Kurogaea. I think there's a lot of potential for classes like this that don't quite fit into the normal DoH roles. Like people have mentioned, there needs to be a meaningful and sustained way a new crafter can fit into the game, but I don't think we need to solve all those issues in order to share fun ideas. Off the top of my head I'll just toss out some random thoughts (a number of these are already in the thread, but I'll include them anyway).

    Weapon and AF

Brush and palette sound like a perfect MH and OH items. Relm-style outfit for their AF set (that's a great picture in the OP).

Palette could serve as a means for Painters to combine colors to discover new and Painter-specific colors that could be used for a variety of items. Color creation could be its own interface where people manually mix amounts of different colors to find new ones. Raw materials found from battle classes could be used for this to help include them in the economy.

    Creations

This thread had some nice ideas that I'll just reiterate, along with some that come to mind.

    - Exclusively-made dyes
-- Unique colors that can't be found elsewhere
-- Unique dye patterns that allow you to dye parts of clothing differently (body/sleeves)
    - Tattoos
-- Create unique designs that players would take to the Aesthetician for use
    - Weapon enchant colors
    - Exclusively-made furniture items (NPC portraits, landscapes, etc)
    - Exclusively-made FC crest designs
    - Exclusively-made FC airship designs/decals

While items like dyes are technically consumables like a potion or meal, I think we'd need to go beyond that to create more worthwhile uses for them. It might be nice to have a consumable item for battle classes that can find a way to provide options for players tackling different battle content. Some rough ideas that might be interesting to flesh out further would be:

    Runes

    Weapon Runes
-- Paint a rune in the shape of one of the Twelve's symbols. Anyone aligned with that deity can use the rune to imbue their weapon with a temporary bonus effect. 2h duration.
-- Materials would determine which of the preset bonus effects the rune provided.
-- Ideally this could be an avenue for special gear effects like "chance to proc a 2nd attack" or "after 3 crits you unleash a burst of energy damaging the target for the total damage of those 3 crits".
-- Obviously these effects would need to be balanced to be competitive with one another. They would also need to provide a meaningful choice, otherwise why bother?

    Ability Runes
-- Paint a rune in the shape of a specific weaponskill or ability.
-- Each job could use these runes to temporarily augment one of their job's skills for a set amount of time.
-- These could provide ways for players to customize themselves slightly. Perhaps a BLM new to level 60 would augment Enochian to last 10 seconds longer while a pro raider would instead choose to augment Sharpcast to work with Fire IV and have a shorter cooldown. A leveling BLM could choose to augment Fire III procs to use a charge system instead of watching all those procs go to waste.

    Boss Runes
-- Paint a rune specific to a Primal or raid boss in the game.
-- Any player who uses said rune will gain a temporary damage boost towards that boss for a set duration.
-- Raid bosses would be limited and slowly unlocked over time. Battle classes would have to collect "intel" from defeated bosses and contribute that to a server-wide pool. Once enough intel had been collected then Painters could learn a new Boss Rune to create.
-- I can already hear everyone crying "no nerfs!" and lamenting the eternal descent of this game into the depths of casual ineptitude. But I like this because it can include everyone who is actively doing battle content. Stuck on a boss in Alexander? Maybe this will help give you a small push. Stuck farming 3000 light for your Anima weapon that isn't even as good as your raid drop? Use this to make the grind slightly less wretched. Having an unlucky streak of no atma ever dropping from Fates? Well...sorry buddy, you're just out of luck.

    Artworks

It would be great to give players the means to be creative and share that with others. I think there's a ton of legal issues by letting players paint and actually create whatever image they want but it would be pretty awesome if artists could create their own images and sell them. Imagine the server communities this could make with great artists gaining a following and notoriety. You could hire one to paint you something specific or an image of you and your significant other for display in your house. Or maybe someone posts daily "comic strips" for the server to come view in their house each day. That could be really neat.

Now...if that was simply out of the question, then I think there are still ways to make something more than preset paintings to sell. What if you give a Painter a screenshot taken in-game for them to turn into a painting? This would have to be done via in-game commands to make sure only proper images were converted to paintings, but I think it would be nice to have something personalized like this. Maybe you want them to capture your Eternal Bond ceremony. How about a self portrait of you in your favorite glamour set? Or what about an FC pic where everyone gathers together for the image that gets converted to a huge wall-sized mural inside the FC house?

Speaking of murals I really like the idea of Painters being able to have display areas within the cities. Maybe each Grand Company sponsors a Public Works project that requires Painters to create. Completely player-created murals might be out of the question, but even if it was a preset design it could be up the Painters to donate the proper dyes required to color it, which would involve other jobs contributing to the effort and doing battle content. It would be a weekly challenge where a completed mural would provide a small but helpful buff to anyone in that Grand Company. The Grand Company to finish the mural first each week would get a small extra bonus in addition to it.

Anyway...that's all I have for now. These aren't meant to be suggestions for SE, just some fun ways a class like that could work within the game world. I'm sure there are other ideas that would be even better. But man...I sure would like that Relm AF set...
