I played a Demonology Warlock in World of Warcraft.
Needless to say, Summoner was right up my alley.

I love Dragoon/Lancer in the FF series.
My brother got me into XIV, and he mained it too, and so I had someone to learn from~ I did get uncomfortable at a point and split between BRD and DRG, but with the changes in BRD, DRG is the only DPS I am comfortable with, and I'm ok with that. I love the job, and so I'm glad I've come this far with it!
A friend brought me over to FFXIV and I wanted a different job than those in her free company. So I settled on Monk, especially once I researched the job and loved the fluid movement of its rotations. Recently, I have been loving Dragoon, and may also look into Ninja though.
Mine is really a case of going with what "clicked" with me. I tested the waters of every class, and the only one that felt completely natural to me - I'm talking, not having to check what my skills do more than a couple of times before getting them down and being able to adjust to situations on the fly without even thinking about it - was Ninja. The quick pace of the class, weaving mudras into the rotation, providing some very valuable team support without sacrificing a high damage output - all of it appealed to me immediately and seemed to come to me so easily that it astounded even me with how natural and enjoyable it became to play, and so quickly.
It's the most easily I've learned a class, and the most fun I've had playing a class, in a very, very long time (especially now that they've fixed the mudras properly!)
There's not much rhyme or reason to my choice when you look at my past. My MMO history went druid tank main/hunter alt in WoW, ranger main/necro alt in GW2, and then monk at current. I wanted a change from tanking, and I love lancers/dragoons, so I made one in 2.0 beta styled sort of after an RP lance-wielding ranger I used. Then I discovered punching things was actually a lot of fun and I loved me some Thanalan.
Now I punch all of the things! _o/
I was Dragoon main until 3.0 since for me it was the easiest job to get used to playing well.
After 3.0 hit I turned to MCH because I find it the most fun job to play. I still use DRG depending on what my party needs but would prefer MCH.
SCH was the closest there was to a RDM so I just rolled with it, and kept with it for the past two years.
The unresponsive pet AI still drives me up the wall though. How that isn't fixed already is beyond me.
I usually prefer to play a sword based class and the only class with sword in 2.0 was Gladiator and it's a tank based class. Back then I unknowingly picked a tank based class in another MMO and hated how I sucked at it so I try not to choose that (Also didn't know tanking in this game makes the role easier to handle). The other two classes that interest me were Bard and Blackmage which is always the secondary class in most mmo and since all the people I started the game with chose a class originated from Gridania so I ended up main as a Bard.
Started as DRG then switched to nin, then to WHM, then too DRK then to MNK then back to nin and then to SMN then to BLM lol and finally back to old faithful DRG and realized how much I love and missed my main class....
But moral of the story is to try out every class before making a decision trust me you will naturally gravitate back to one...
Tank?
check.
greatsword?
check.
heavy armor?
check.
more fun than paladin?
check.
