So people who are willing to put in time to grind for an item have more of a right to an item than someone who is willing to pay for it? There are a lot of items (fat cat minion for example) that require an absurd amount of grinding to obtaon, yet they never appear in the cash shop for people who don't want to or don't have the time to grind for it. Some people are looking at the cash shop as a money grab... I see it as them giving players a way of getting an item rather than spending their time. So what if those items never appear in the game? Wanting them to, when you don't even need them, is selfish. I have never spent money on the mogul station outside a server transfer, but I would much rather spend x amount of dollars rather than grind for a ridiculous amount of time.

Is basically what you are saying

    Which is kinda...pointless/

What I said is something to be considered and a sort of counter argument to many of the things being thrown around in this thread. It has way more substance than your response.

The reason it's important that the cash shop only has cosmetic items is because those items matter only to the purchaser, and not to anyone else. It has nothing to do with cosmetic items being unimportant.

    - If they were to place "Enhanced" Gordian i210 pieces in the cash shop and just reward i200 dyeable gear in Savage, raiders would be furious.
    - If they were to place the latest PvP equipment in the cash shop instead of having it available through in game currency, that portion of the playerbase would be furious
    - For crafters, items needed for the red scripts crafts or even the gear itself, you get the idea...

There are people whose "endgame" is glamours, or minion collections, or mount collections. Coming here to say "what you like is not that important, it's fine" is nothing but, again, selfish.
There is so much wrong with this post where to begin. They are keeping the cash shop clear of pay to win items and items which actually give an ingame benefit over comparison of cash shop as it stand now vs pay to win gordian gear in cash shop doesnt work and hold no merit what so ever. Glamour gives no one an in game advantage over others in terms of progression. It never has done and never will do. Analogy is just silly.

Also calling people selfish due to them have less issues with glamours in the cash shop just makes you come across as severely self entitled.

Cash shop is not pay to win nor does it sell items that gives anyone an ingame advantage over others for real money.

I love the fact that there are players that believe that subscription equals entitlement. The player is not entitled to anything in FFXIV, you lost that the moment you agreed to the ToS. The subscription almost entirely goes towards server upkeep and costs.

I said what I meant exactly the way I said it. Does the cash-shop yukata help you advance to endgame? No? Then it doesn't help with advancement.

Did you know that the prices to keep a server running isn't that much? This counts the same for game servers. Let's say there are 200k active monthly paying players atm. They all pay 15 bucks (not considering legacy) and we just think of the earnings they make with just the sub: 200000*15= 3000000. Means they'll make 3mil already with just 200k active subscribers. Servers costs total might be like 1%-3% of that. Meaning they made 97% in that month. Now lets take off the labor costs and say they earn 3000-4000 each, cause that sounds reasonable if you work in a large scale development team. I don't know how big the team is, but let's say 15 people. That's another 15% that goes off. Meaning they still made 82%. An update won't cost a lot, so I'll leave that out. That still means they have a profit of 2.46mil. Just that one month with paying for a 30 day subscription if there are 200k playing. Though. A few weeks back it was established that the current active accounts is more than double of 200k. Now if every one of the 200k people have one extra retainer they've made another 200k.

In the end the cash shop is just a extra money grab that the game doesn't even need.

You know, it's strange how SE can offer collectors editions with special mounts and minions (and sometimes art books, figures and/or soundtracks) for extra money, and no one cares. You can even upgrade your regular game purchase to the collectors edition solely for the mounts and minions that come with (ie: no physical swag), and no one gives a shit. But offer mounts and/or minions in a cash shop and people start to lose their minds.

I couldn't care less about the cash shop, as long as it remains cosmetic.

I am however losing interest in the game, but that has more to do with content becoming irrelevant too quickly and half assed releases for new content. But I guess the cash shop is a bigger problem to most. Priorities yo.

How do you know the server upkeep cost is only 1 - 3% of that numbers you assume? How bout the game engine licensing, musics and stuffs? They cost money too. And how about overseas staffs and activities upkeep? Like staffs in the EU and US?
