    Not like FATEs done right couldn't be amazing. Just need to be individually fun and more relevant to what people are doing. Essentially, need to feel like they're expanding on or creating events for what you'd already be doing, and providing extra rewards for it, rather than some random, irrelevant pop-up. For instance, let's say you start off trapped inside an icy canyon. After triggering certain conditions in that zone, A FATE could start during which you have to survive, but you could potentially use the ropes used to come down and attack you to get up and out of the canyon zone. Another could start if you come in line of sight of a particular fortress ('s watchman) while traveling along snowy mountain passes around it. They fire cannons into the icecaps above you, and now you have a run-like-mad event. Any of these kinds of things would make players feel like they're actually dependent on teamwork, rather than just running from one pop-up, and there mindlessly grinding, to the next, for more mindless grinding. Holding base camps, which provide PvE event-style mission boards or a war-map, etc., along with retroactive bonus exp on rest and a way to purchase or trade goods (since you can't easily teleport back) from siege could be a similar kind of FATE, though the appropriate scaling would be tough. In the surrounding hunting grounds, killing enough of a certain mob type might spawn a NM, who isn't at first visible, but starts creating tracks and opportunities to encounter (essentially, spawn) him, such as by taking out your convoys (where it starts changing the qualities of caravan defense missions and has a chance to appear there), or outposts (from which you can try to chase now his tracks to narrow down his actual location). Etc., etc.
