Unbelievably slow download 2000+ hours remaining

    [RESOLVED IT MYSELF]

    (Nutshell)
Had to do a complete reinstall of FF14+ heavensward

Estimated time download time 2400 + hours remaining
    Download speed 0.09MB?

    (Long story)
A few days ago my internet went down. It was down for more almost a day.
Net came back up and the login field on the launcher remained black.
Verified cashe on steam. Missing files.
I believe steam fetched the files and patched them in
    Still can't log in.
Find out it was a firewall related(or something). Had it fixed by someone else.
Go to log in and get a message that I need to download heavens ward... wat.
    Okay... install.
    2400+ hours remaining.
    Uninstall>reinstall
    2400+ hours remaining.

My internet speed was never that great but initial installation was NOT this slow. I think it could have something to do with port forwarding or firewall related? I am in no way tech savvy so I'm way out of my element. I just want my game back
    Any advice?

The version on Steam is for when it was first released on Steam (about 2.1) and has never been updated since. So when you verified files it checked the current 3.1 files against it's database, found most of them don't match the 2.1 files it had... and therefore downloaded 2.1 on top of your 3.1 installation. Then after that finished and you ran the game it then tried to redownload all the updates from 2.1 back to 3.1 including the expansion So basically, you don't want to ever verify files for this game on Steam or any other game that patches itself/update that don't come through Steam.

To fix the black login screen on FF XIV (if you ever get it again), you need to open Internet Explorer and delete the Temporary Internet Files (the browser cache). Even if you don't use it as your main browser, that login window is an IE window and the black screen is caused by a cache problem which clearing it fixes.

Back to your actual download problem though, have you tried to go sites such as http://www.speedtest.net/ to actually verify your Internet is going at a reasonable speed? I just can't help but wonder if your Internet recently went down, maybe it still actually has problems and you should probably just confirm it is working at full speed first before trying to solve problems with the game.

You shouldn't need to open/forward any ports for FF XIV because it's a client which connects to the SE servers. You only need to open/forward ports if you're running a server and computers are connecting to you (like if you're hosting a game server or something similar).

Just to clarify, the slow download speed, is this when you're downloading the initial game via Steam or after you've done that and it's updating in the launcher? If it's Steam you could try going into the Steam options and changing to a different download server, but I recommend checking your Internet is actually going as fast as you expect as mentioned above.

Sorry I haven't been more help!
