The fact that Abyssea pretty much went and invalidated everything else XI had to offer was not the path the game should have went down, which is why many people consider it to be the worst thing to happen to FFXI.

I am diehard FFXI fan, and even I say no..

    No!

    NOOO!

Abyessa should not be anywhere near this game. I've no problem with alternate versions of our cities getting overrun by enemies, but I for sure do not want to go back to abyssites, IRL timed used stone for entry, procs, capping lights, cruor and all the other nonsense that eventually ended up infesting other pieces of content..

Abyssea is ok wit the FFXI gearing system, but I don't think it would fit in XIV!

We sure need more endgame content beside raid. SE has to split this kind of content, like make Diadem like a "Sky" or "Sea" from FFXI, so static/set parties could go in, farm the pop item, then do the boss, or just go there, clear trash and do boss like Dynamis, then make it drop, let's say, feet, gloves and head.
Then Raid would give chest, pants and Weapon.
Or make Raid give a set of gear with an specific bonus set like "2/5 gear = +5% heal, 4/5 = +10% Fey cure" then the other content "2/5 = +5% MP, 4/5 = +10% sprint speed"

It's just an example, but I think we need more endgame here with different objectives and gear, else people will just gear up an off, and off's off, and off's off's off spec etc etc... boring.

The Gold Saucer says high. I though Triple Triad was a train wreak but Thal's Balls did Lords of Verminnion hit the ground dead.

FFXI at least it works with a variety of content and play styles, while FFXIV has either "Zerg Fest" or "Group Jump Rope".
Really? FFXI? And after saying this...

I believe you we're being honest when you say lock-outs being too much trouble. But then going back to FFXI? FFXI was nothing but strict lock-outs and statics. In order to participate in an event, you had to have cleared the previous content. In order to find a group for a clear, you had to shout or do a player /search. Thus it war very hard to advance w/o a static.

Current XI does not have the lockouts it used too.

I have recently went back to XI and am enjoying it much more than XIV currently. Even with the nerfed content there is still plenty to do, leveling isn't so bad anymore and there are a surprising amount of ppl online. Peak times are seeing 1200+ people on my server and non peak are still hitting 700ish.

If they gave it a graphical upgrade and some of the perks XIV has, like pf, aestician, glamour and such without taking on the XIV trend of quickly out dated content and a insanely fast paced gear treadmill it would probably do better than people realize. A little more job balance would need to happen too but still it could be something. Will it, doubt it. SE has a new trend of hiring dev teams that seem to have never played an mmo in their life.

Abyssea came out shortly before the release of FFXIV 1.0, and I wonder if a lot of people claim that Abyssea ruined the game for them when it was in fact they we're planning to leave for 1.0 anyhow and needed a scapegoat, and Abyssea fit very nicely.

Abyssea's biggest change was that it made leveling your jobs much quicker. Once you reached level 30, you could enter Abyssea, find a leveling alliance to quickly level up allowing players to reach the cap within a day. This was in stark contrast to before, where all your time was spent leveling as it was extremely slow. And do to the game being completely open world, multiple parties would often compete for leveling spots and claims, so if you found a spot w/ rapid experience gain you would spend hours leveling. I'd heard of 48 hour Colibri parties. Longest I remember going for was eight hours and it was exhausting. That was 2006. It's ten years later and an eight hour grind would been seen as un-acceptable. A 48 hour grind is seen as unhealthy and possibly dangerous.

What sums up the FFXI experience the most (for me anyway) is Mr Happy's Quest for Leaping Lizzy video. Watch it and witness a players' decent into madness and paranoia! It's both funny and sad at the same time.

I'm never going back to FFXI. I deleted my character for good. The game is so dated it's not even funny. The last time I logged in was in early December. I didn't even make it out of Ronfaure. I was like, "Screw this, I'm not playing an HD N64 game. If I did, I'd rather play Banjo-Kazooie, Banjo-Tooie, DK64, or Majora's Mask." The game isn't even fun or challenging anymore. It's easy, but really old. Heck, even looking at it disgusted me after being so used to FFXIV. FFXI doesn't even have ambient shadows for crying out loud, and WoW (I'm so glad I never played that game at all) is just as old and has ambient shadows and better graphic options. So no, I'd never touch FFXI again. It can go into the ground and push up daisies. My characters are deleted and I am done with that game. I'd pay more for that game monthly than my $10 with Legacy on FFXIV, with more character options and customization. FFXI has the poorest choice in choosing a character model. 90% of the population has the same model as you, and the only differences between characters are your name and the gear that they are wearing.
