It doesn't work as intended because they developed it bad.
NMs aren't anything like hunts. If you think so you didn't actually fight NMs.
Just like diadem isn't anything like dynamis.
I could take any good idea you give me and make it a mindless grind fest.

I was semi-afk in Dragon's Aery for years getting window timers, I am well aware how NM's worked in FFXI. Also, please understand what I said before when I said "FFXI-like", don't recall calling them carbon copy. They are definitely influenced by them however.
People kept requesting something like NM hunting or Dynamis like content, and they finally get it, and they are underwhelming at best. This is because they still have to work in the context of FFXIV, and in doing so, does not work out as well as they have hoped. They seriously need to stop taking FFXI requests into consideration and come up with fun content that at least attempts to not feel like a grind.

Its 100% possible to make NMs work in ffxiv. Just like it\\\\'s possible to make other content work.
The problem is even on some of the easiest content. People struggle. So they keep bringing out these ideas in the context that "anyone" can do it rather than make it challenging.
They can make the trash in diadem interesting. They just chose not to.
One of the things that made trash in FFXI a threat was they hit like a nuke. And to reduce this you had to constantly debuff their buffs, keep up slow/paralyze/silence/bio.
In ffxiv the monsters gain permanent immunity it seems if you try to keep these up.

For some reason can't edit:
They could make trash do meaningful buffs that must me one Ilm punched. Or remove the resistance, and have the drg keep up slow during his rotation. Have this other job do silence on magic moves and stun on physical. Make these moves happen often, and maybe even combo with other trash. Maybe a monster could do a AOE sleep, and another monster does some kind of suck you in move. To survive this mechanic you have to have dPS get behind healers so the wind sucking you win is less effective on the healer. And the healer can get away. So 4 people must eat sleep but make it so healer can wake everyone afterwards otherwise the trash will wreck the party one person at a time.
However this makes things interesting but also difficult. Thus casual people would not like it

Its not to say they can't make anything work, but even the developers don't know how to make content from a previous game work in this one. FFXI and FFXIV are two entirely different beasts with their biggest similarity being the FF name. Whenever someone wants to make an idea that comes from that, they need to also suggest how it works in the context of FFXIV. If not then the product is a failure from the start. Things like hunts and Diadem are really poorly made content. Do they work technically? Yes. However so much better could of been thought out yet developers take the easy route.

People should stop with "FF XIV need [insert XI content with no explanation]" and should instead write "FF XIV need something similar to [insert XI content with explanation]"

I give common sense a like
Sorry but I see this all the time and the only follow up that I have is, what would you suggest? It's been 10 years since I last play XI but from what I remember it was skill chains and magic burst. I mean wasn't most fight just a war of attrition?

One difference is that CC skills had use in XI. Bind, slow, heavy, paralyze, sleep, (also things like blind, dispel) etc. could be applied to most monsters and were really potent. I mean yeah, on trash monsters in EXP parties they weren't necessary, but using CCs and debuffs in harder fights was really useful.

You are the devil and I denounce you! Go back to hell and take your abbyssea with you,
lol I scrolled past this post and had to apply the breaks in disbelief.

As much as I enjoyed Abyssea in XI, no thank you. The current XIV system has something similar in the form of Diadem. If we're worried about longevity of the game, we'll need something that's suitable for XIV and not a copy-paste from XI.
