It's funny that people are totally fine with exaggerated female breasts in games .. or exaggerated male chest muscles .... but people are bothered by exaggerated male junk.

Don't roes have muscle definition too? Maybe I'm mistaken.
My guess for Hyur might be the lack of 'exotic' features. They have no tail option or ear option etc, that could be why they have the muscle definition as something to give the 'human' option that doesn't have as much to stand out compared to other races.
It might actually be the other way around - in the sense of: each character model can only hold so much information. I read an excellent downbreak of that a while ago... but what it comes down to is: Each model can only have a certain set of variabls. If a model has a tail-option, thats one slot blocked, so you cant have a tail-option and a muscle-slider.Don't roes have muscle definition too? Maybe I'm mistaken.

It's a terrible way to go about it in 2018 if this is the case. They need to upgrade the game every so often otherwise it's going to fail. Again. And I'm not talking just about character creation.It might actually be the other way around - in the sense of: each character model can only hold so much information. I only ask for Male characters to have a bulge, even just a little, to make them more aesthetically realistic. To myself personally seeing a flat canvas on the lower section of a Male characters feels unrealistic and...incomplete(?) to me. Sorry if this doesn't make sense. I can be a huge perfectionist when it comes to character aesthetics at times so Male characters missing even a small bulge of some sort irks me a little. >-<;
There's a lot of people who are fine with the idea of a slight, tasteful bulge to reflect anatomy. The people who speak out against such things are a very vocal minority...and tend to be the sort in need of self reflection and acceptance to understand why basic anatomy unnerves them so much.
Overwatch didn't die out or suffer as a result of the inclusion of tasteful bulges on the male character models. Just make it optional and those who want it can toggle it on and those who don't can toggle it off. That's a solid enough compromise.
I'd argue that one of the reasons as to why breasts are considered to be more appealing is due to their prominence in the media. In earlier civilisations - such as The Roman Empire - it wasn't unusual to walk around and see nude statues of both women and men, nor did many bat an eyelid at the idea of appreciating the aesthetics of both genders. Now, obviously we don't need full on nudity within FFXIV but the shift in attitudes towards anatomy is very much a consequence of 'modern' society.
I'm also not convinced that it is truly a 'minority' of people who appreciate such aspects of the male form, either. Up until recently, people were persecuted for their sexuality after all - and in some countries, they still risk being killed for it. I imagine that plays a large part in people being quiet about their tastes - and it's very telling that when progress is made in regards to the acceptance of sexuality in a particular country then there's a lot of people who come out as homosexual or bisexual.
On a related note, from an in-game lore perspective sexuality is something that doesn't really bother anybody within Eorzea. It'd be nice if that could be reflected by the character models to make such a stance feel authentic. In a tasteful manner, of course.
Appeal have nothing to do with sexuality, you know? The primary physical points of appeal in men going by questionnaires usually involve musculature. Heck, the focus is on the upper body part, not the lower. It is, in fact, similar in women, except the points of appeal are the defining traits (face, hair etc) rather than the body type, with the exception of buttocks (which, ironically, in this game are non-existent despite being statistically more important than breasts).I'm also not convinced that it is truly a 'minority' of people who appreciate such aspects of the male form, either. Both men and women, heterosexual and homosexual can say that someone is handsome or attractive. It was most always the case, except when surrounded by the most extreme parts of the society. You can be 100% heterosexual and say that some guy is handsome and takes care of himself without anyone saying anything other than "I agree" or "I disagree". Similarly a woman can be 100% heterosexual and can say that some woman is beautiful, to a similar result.
Don't mix points of appeal with romantic interests. They are two entirely different things, even if the latter does work nicely with the former at times.
