It's a terrible way to go about it in 2018 if this is the case. They need to upgrade the game every so often otherwise it's going to fail. Again. And I'm not talking just about character creation.It might actually be the other way around - in the sense of: each character model can only hold so much information. I read an excellent downbreak of that a while ago... but what it comes down to is: Each model can only have a certain set of variabls. If a model has a tail-option, thats one slot blocked, so you cant have a tail-option and a muscle-slider.
Yeah...no. There are many guys playing female characters for...eh...esthetic reasons...that do not put the breast slider at max. I should know, I'm one of them.
If there was a bulge slider and I made a male character, in any game, I'd actually put it at the smallest size possible. It's an eyesore. And it doesn't mean anything at all. Anatomically speaking the size of the bulge have absolutely nothing to do with the time it's being used. Go look it up if you don't know what I mean.
It's doubly so for a digital character. Men and women look at womens breasts for appeal world-wide. Neither men nor most women care about the bulge as far as the appeal goes. It's only a matter of some men that don't know the first thing about their own anatomy trying to look for "bragging rights"...which are moot when anyone could make a character like they did...
A funny thing. Nipples are the only part of a womans breasts that need to be covered to satisfy the laws in most countries of America and Europe as far as "public obscenity goes". You can just cover them with a band-aid and if you do...you're green to go public, legally speaking. By extension, if there are any top-less bans on men, they also only apply to nipples.

I only ask for Male characters to have a bulge, even just a little, to make them more aesthetically realistic. To myself personally seeing a flat canvas on the lower section of a Male characters feels unrealistic and...incomplete(?) to me. Sorry if this doesn't make sense. I can be a huge perfectionist when it comes to character aesthetics at times so Male characters missing even a small bulge of some sort irks me a little. >-<;
There are people out there who appreciate male packages, shockingly. Not everyone gets cooties when they see a hint of masculinity in the nether regions... Seeing ken doll anatomy when there could be just the smallest of bumps to let me know I'm not some special category of alternate genitalia fetish is a bit of a bummer. I'm not going to crusade for it, it doesn't affect my character or how likely I am to quit or not, but it would be a tiny thing to make me like the game tad more. (I think this thread was created some time ago as a non-serious request anyway.)
We can all keep being nippleless wonders though- that's more amusing than anything.
I'm irl female and I don't particularly want to see any bulge other than my husbands, but I think they should have at least a slight bulge, that Ken doll flatness just isn't realistic (nor is the too-flat butts of female characters. That hip-to-butt ratio is just weird). Atm their budgie smugglers look like cardboard smugglers, and I can understand why guys would want the bulge.
Its a natural part of their gender, that looks like it's been cut off in the game. And that just doesn't quite sit right with me.

There's a lot of people who are fine with the idea of a slight, tasteful bulge to reflect anatomy. The people who speak out against such things are a very vocal minority...and tend to be the sort in need of self reflection and acceptance to understand why basic anatomy unnerves them so much.
Overwatch didn't die out or suffer as a result of the inclusion of tasteful bulges on the male character models. Just make it optional and those who want it can toggle it on and those who don't can toggle it off. That's a solid enough compromise.
I think you misunderstand me. I have not posted anything in this thread since its creation up till now for a simple reason. I don't care either way. I won't mind male characters being flat there, nor will I particularly be against it being added.
My response was to the specific poster that implied that every guy out there would want to use the slider to make maximum bulge size because it's supposedly a point of appeal for men. It's not. Neither anatomically nor socially. Unlike breasts which are part of an appeal for majority of people of both genders, bulge is a point of appeal for a minority, and even then mostly for one gender. In fact, I'm pretty confident in saying that more people care about their own bulges because of their ignorance rather than those of others for their appeal.
I'd argue that one of the reasons as to why breasts are considered to be more appealing is due to their prominence in the media. In earlier civilisations - such as The Roman Empire - it wasn't unusual to walk around and see nude statues of both women and men, nor did many bat an eyelid at the idea of appreciating the aesthetics of both genders. Now, obviously we don't need full on nudity within FFXIV but the shift in attitudes towards anatomy is very much a consequence of 'modern' society.
I'm also not convinced that it is truly a 'minority' of people who appreciate such aspects of the male form, either. Up until recently, people were persecuted for their sexuality after all - and in some countries, they still risk being killed for it. I imagine that plays a large part in people being quiet about their tastes - and it's very telling that when progress is made in regards to the acceptance of sexuality in a particular country then there's a lot of people who come out as homosexual or bisexual.
On a related note, from an in-game lore perspective sexuality is something that doesn't really bother anybody within Eorzea. It'd be nice if that could be reflected by the character models to make such a stance feel authentic. In a tasteful manner, of course.
Did we really need this thread necro'd...? >_>;
