We aren't sure just yet how patch 3.2 will adjust the formula for tank damage, so the op might be right a couple months from now. The way things are now, stacking a lot of Str and Vit is best so melded accessories with both was ideal in 2.x series, that's why they have delayed releasing higher item level crafted accessories until they make adjustments.

That's a fair point, but to be honest, I don't think we're going to see too dramatic of a change to stat allocation. for one, there would be a problem to retroactively applying stat changes to previous encounters. SE still has to work with the old content of the game. They can't go changing things willy-nilly without considering what it might do to previous encounters or old meta. It's not like they can somehow divorce Str from Crit and Det (especially Det), and guess what's on most of that old gear.

They also can't do anything that would risk making Tanks too under/over powered for the end-game raids. Lower Str scaling for tanks? Good luck with those Dps checks. Balance Tank Dps scaling with a mix of Vit/Str? Sure, but that's not really going to change anything for Tanks who already prioritize Str. They didn't say they're changing the Vit-Hp ratio at all, so additional Hp is irrelevant to Progression groups that can already clear with full Str. So the only real question would be how would the Str/Vit scaling stack up to traditional Str/Det. To make tanks use the Vit gear, it would at least have to be equal to the benefits they'd see out of a Str set... which would mean that it would really make no difference at all. You could go full Str or full Vit and get the same benefit, maybe more since you'd have additional Vitality that you don't even really need... That doesn't sound very balanced.

You also got to remember that the whole reason they said they were doing this was because Melded accessories were often better than the ones dropped in Savage. They only want to make Savage accessories relevant for progression groups and avoid putting undue burdens on a single class for progressing (Ie: Tanks should not have to spend Millions upon Millions of gill on Materia just to do end-game raids while healers and Dps get away with using dropped accessories). I don' think they're going to make such dramatic changes just to see this happen. I could be wrong, though. It's all speculation at this point.
