I currently get around 400ms ping from my location in Ontario Canada to California during the day. If the servers move there, will this game continue to be playable or not?

The exact route that packets use (which depend on the ISPs involved in both ends) matter far more than geographic location for determining ping times.I currently get around 400ms ping from my location in Ontario Canada to California during the day. That being said, a 400 ms ping time would likely be borderline unplayable. Not completely unplayable, but avoiding AOEs will be very hard.
It is far worse than we could have imagined. I live in eastern Canada. My ping to Montreal was 25ms and I had zero packet losses. Now that the data centers are in Sacramento, my pings over the past hour have ranged from 100-210ms and I've been getting a lot of packet losses. I can't play like this. We need an eastern NA data center. I wonder if SE would give me a refund on Stormblood cause this connection is 5-8 times worse than it was before. If you don't think 150-210ms is bad considering I am on the same continent, my ping results to Germany are only 130-164ms. I might as well just play on an EU data center even though I live in NA.
A ping time of 200ms is not all that terrible, all thing considered. Not good by any means, but not terrible. It is far worse than we could have imagined. I live in eastern Canada. Non-trivial amounts of packet loss on the other hand can really make things bad and suggests there is a problem somewhere along the way.
i live in brasil, and i was used to have 150ms, now i have 300, pretty much unplayable. will SE make something regard that? or they just dont care about south american players? already bought stormblood (pre ordered). So either they make it playable and fix it or i guess they should refund every south american player who bought the expansion before the server location change.
Where do you find what the your server IP is? I am on Ultros I never did find where it shows the IP addresses to each sever.
It's been posted in a few places.
My ping during prime time is now 713ms with 1000ms jumps. Unless they get a much larger user base out of the west, I just don't see how they thought this was at all smart. Should have had both up and split the load.
Ontario's pretty big.
I've never had anything that bad. Are you like north of Toronto or something?
