Idea for a new Gold Saucer mini game: Dragon's Neck Coliseum

Found this interesting idea so I'm translating it here so it has more visibility and also to gather more reviews on it

This idea was made based on 3 three main points :
    • To create dynamic content (which would change every week)
    • To bring real challenge
    • To re-use of the idea behind FF VI's Dragon's Neck coliseum

Much like the original coliseum, this content would be based on single fights like in FFVI.
Of course it has to be different since it is FFXIV, thus each week we would have access to a new boss to challenge with a real strategy behind it to find out (no casual bashing OR if there is, at least have a casual and a midcore raid like version) that boss could use the skin of an already existing mob (like a morbol... etc recycling ftw).

To spice it even further, we could have tournaments like we have with TT and Verminion with a leaderboard which could be separated in multiple sections (clear speed, first clear etc..) the reward for this would be nothing else than optional glamour or minions and such, no gear... It is important to avoid this greedy idea to put stuff and have it become something you clear once to show how much powerful your are and so on.

With this we could create some sort of rotation with different bosses each week, a content that would have for purpose to bring a new challenge every week to have fun with rather than only teeth gritting content while remaining challenging for the players, with original strategies as well to avoid it becoming yet another hunt.

[looking at you Diadem... inb4 comment from me (Phyllo) cause I know someone will say it xD]

What do you think of it?
I'll just make another comment before some smart butt points it out, dragon's neck is already used as the name of a trial but there's plenty other coliseums in all the FF we have to pick a name from

I will also gather the suggestions right below.

    ADDITIONAL SUGGESTIONS:

-4 Man or 8 Man boss rush
    -randomized attacks
-no aoe markers in some fights
-untouched versions of the fights before they get tweaked and nerfed to be added in game
-specific restrictions to a singular fight (like "no stun")
-serie of solo encounters with a random debuff at the end of each fight on top of the enemies getting stronger
    -use the Ul'Dahn coliseum
    -spectator mode
-solo challenges divided in role category (tank, melee, ranged, etc...) akin to verminion's challenge mode
-1v1 pvp divided in categories (all, tank, melee, etc...)

I really like this idea, however, I think it would work better like the Battle Arena from FFVII, where you fight a series of encounters solo, and each round completed will spin a roulette that will inflict a random debuff on you (with the enemies getting stronger as well), but the upside being the greater the debuff, the more points are awarded, so it becomes a match of sheer stamina and skill rather than simply going in with the best gear and zerging everything.

As for location, well, the GLA's Guild in Ul'dah has a currently player-inaccessible Colosseum which would be perfect for such a system! Gold Saucer itself would be another possible location (which would also be fitting if the FFVII-style system is used).

Either way, I like your idea as well.

I support this. I'm always for more content, and having something that changes constantly would be nice. Though as for difficulty, I'd say put it at something akin to Bismark EX in level. Hard enough you won't be clearing it first try with randoms, but not hard enough that you have to spend hours practicing with a group to get it like with raids and such, particularly if the battle changes weekly. As for the ranking, I'd say also have rankings dividable by each class and each role in addition to the groups themselves......

A couple of other additions I'd like.....

    - Spectator option. Join an instance as a spectator to one of the parties on your datacenter currently fighting, with fights to join listed in decreasing order based on the boss's health by default, with sort options for "just beginning", "party wipes", ect. Possibly have a MGP, (or gil if in Ul'Dah arena as mentioned above), fee to spectate....

    - Solo challenges that stay static and are tuned to each role of "ranged DPS", "caster DPS", "melee DPS", "healer", and "tank". These don't have to necessarily be "training" challenges, but are rather just tests of skill and adaptability when outside of a group, and start out easy only to become more difficult, like the LoV challenge levels. Definitely have different mechanics to each level, with the option to add more levels as more patches come out in the future.....

    - PvP 1v1 arenas, WITH spectator option. Best 3 out of 5. Have it divided into categories "open", (any random matchup), "ranged DPS", "caster DPS", "melee DPS", "healer", and "tank". Have rewards be a small amount of currency, (10 MGP or 100 gil), payed regardless of win or loss, with an additional 10% of all the spectator fees payed to the winner. Player win records can be kept and all looking to spectate a match can see the wins/losses of the player in question at a glance before entering, with it being divided into subsections of "with current class" and "overall". Two players can que up while in a party to directly face each other with the "open" rules. This idea satisfies the PvP crowd to an extent, while providing something for the rest of the players to watch if they so choose.....

Aah yes I remember this one quest in ul'dah where you fought in that unused coliseum, I hope they'll make use of it someday

Also updated the list of suggestions
