What excited you more? The original FFXIV concept or the new instanced one?

When FFXIV was first announced it was described as open-world, where you could main as a gatherer, or a crafter, or be an adventurer. You could switch between jobs on the whim without running back to town. You could do group crafting, fight marlboros with tactics, etc.

Personally FFXIV sounded revolutionary to me. It had a lot of awesome -new- concepts that seemed like they would set the game apart.

The new FFXIV sounds like a WoW clone with pretty graphics. I mean all dungeons instanced just kind of takes the open-world feeling out of an MMO. And while cross-server parties sound nice they kind of kill the community since you tend to make a lot of friends by partying with people on your server.

So while I was -very- enthusiastic about the original FFXIV release, I'm not so much about this one. I personally don't see it succeeding as a relaunch and don't really see anything that would set it apart from other MMOs other than graphics.

So i guess if you are overly enthusiastic about this new one, I ask you this:
What about it stands out and sets it apart from the numerous other MMO's out there and coming out?

What stands apart? It's final fantasy and <insert game here> isn't.

Instancing doesn't make a game automatically "wow clone with pretty graphics."

Dungeons are instanced. The world itself is still open. Instancing exists because people ask for it. People don't like fighting with eachtother over who gets to do what when, a problem that plagued one of the mainstay events, dynamis, in FFXI for years until they just did away with reservations since they couldn't implement instancing. If they could have, though, they would have.

Personally FFXIV sounded revolutionary to me.
It didn't to me. What it did seem like, though, was the kind of MMO with the theme I'm most interested in. These things said, the whole reason some things like these are changing is because they didn't work out well. Personally, I liked the action gauge system. Am I upset that it's gone? slightly, but I know that the game is better for the masses without it.

Some new ideas are great and end up working out. Others do not work out so well. FFXIV experimented with a lot of things. In the end, some of those experiments didn't serve it so well. These changes are for the better.

I myself am excited for the changes. They are keeping things that work well and getting rid of the poorly implemented things. I know its a 50/50 chance if people agree with the changes or not but we'll all have to just wait and see how it turns out. I'm in it for the long run anyways.
