A question about...

OK I just had a brain lapse and forget the actual name of the NPC type character I am thinking of, but basically they are the people in game that you recruit. I think maybe they do some of the crafting and such for you.

I know this sounds stupid and I apologize, but at what level do you start to get them?


I think they might be called retainers now that I think about it.

The ability to hire retainers is unlocked through the main scenario quest soon after level 20. Minfilia just tells you that she's given you access. You have to actually go to the market in one of the main cities and look for an NPC labeled "Retainer Vocate" (or some such) that's standing behind a counter. You can hire up to two normally, or up to six more through additional monthly fees.

Yes those are retainers and you get them after the level 20ish main story quest I believe.
