Why a sub now is good or (How I Learned to Stop Worrying and Love the sub)

Now to be honest when I saw the announcement I was upset at the decision that had been taken, but after venting a bit I realized that in the end this actually works out for the best.

For those of us who bought a box of the game we get another launch and free trial before we pay for a sub. So in essence it's another fall 2010 with a much better product (benefit of the doubt). I would hope that the free trial for those with a copy of the original game is month long and with no restrictions. We get what we payed for last year in 2012 (not optimal, but better than nothing).

While I will not be subbing, I respect that others enjoy the game and are willing to pay money for it, even if I don't understand it (live and let live).

Those of us that are leaving will free up space so they could merge servers in the future and at the same time make the information migration easier.

While seeing the development process of the game was interesting it was detrimental to submersion in the world. I will enjoy the world more when I haven't seen al the nuts and bolts holding up the moogle.

So good luck to all the eorzeans, see you in 2012 and thanks for the hardwork Yoshida-san et al.

Are you sure that you won't stay and see how the game takes shape? I think it's a privilege to see how everything will evolve and unfold, and I'm sure that the game will deliver in the end. Once FFXIV kicks off and all the newbies pour in, why not have your char maxed out by then?

I can sum my reasons up in two words for being willing to pay a sub: Ixali Strongold

They're trying to frame the restructure of the game as a sort of "cataclysm" ala wow, where the world is reformed giving current players a unique experience, and at the same time justifying a subscription .

It's almost a good idea, but It sort of commits a cardinal sin that SE should be acutely aware of: Charing money for a largely untested product.

if FFXIV v. 2.0 is as different as it's touted to be (completely new server structure, completely new engine), they should at least have a "beta" (for example, on a public test real) of it for it to be free to existing players to ensure that the new system actually works.

I'm vary wary that it will do SE any good to lose players, even if it's only 5-10% loss, and that's almost a best case scenario.

good post OP. I will not pay for sub but I shall come back for the 2.0 free trial release. Hopefully this new product will draw in plenty of new players.

I disagree. Having just tested a server move at work (and a massive underlying code change) they have more than enough folks internally with 250 employees on the project to not use public test servers.

Aside from the fun I have with friends in game, this is one of the main reasons I will be a paying customer once subs start. Certain plots will unfold during the next year that will never be repeatable and I want to see it firsthand.

Besides, most people spend 10 bucks a day just on gas to get to and from work.

@ the OP now that is how you disagree like an adult. Nothing offensive at all about your post and you got your point across. Fare thee well and when you return there will be a "Final Fantasy XIV" waiting.
