Wait a second...you are basing your opinion on another persons opinion? I could understand if the game was not FTP if you did something like that but here we have been for a year now and you are basing your entire argument on the opinions of other people? Ummm ok. So why did you play the game to begin with? Alpha and Beta were both pretty horrendous overall and not much changed at initial release. I can understand waiting out reviews for 6 months to see what people have to say if I have to pay to play but if I buy a game and it's free for a year you better believe I am going to get my monies worth out of it before I make a call on its worth. Your other point about "knowing the content before you pay for it" is all nonsense. Seeing a few snip-its of in game graphics and some fighting scenes here and there tells you nothing about content. It might tell you something about mechanics but nothing about storyline. Reviews in general are almost always biased and opinionated and the narrators only point out what they want you to focus on rather than giving you an overview of the game itself. I usually turn down the sound so I can look at the game and not hear someone else telling me what I should be thinking about a game unless I want to hear the sound effects. If it looks interesting and I like the storyline then I give it a try. If I don't see anything that might interest me then I wait it out and make a call on it later. You can read reviews and watch videos. You can know the content before you pay for it.
Calling it a relaunch does not mean a server wipe. A relaunch meaning they will completely rework the game from the inside out, they've admitted this. A relaunch will bring a new advertising campaign, like how they mentioned they will bring it to next years E3.
People, 2.0 is a relaunch. They want to wait until the game is 'ready" to start bringing in new players. More people are going to leave this already desolate community of supporters. Your think your server's /shout channel is quiet now? Good look getting a group going outside of linkshell friends.
Stop bringing up the fact that my "main" character is only level 13. If you're not going to read the entire thread, then don't come in here spreading hate.
Reworking menus, a graphic engine and environmental aspects of the game does not qualify as a relaunch. They are not changing the armory system. They are not changing the roles. They are not changing any progress of characters. They are not relaunching anything. They are just updating and revamping some things to make them run smoother and/or make them more accessible to people who may have trouble with them. They are also reworking them so people can get faster response times from their actions. All of the core mechanics for game play will still be the same. In short, same game just a different skin.
Bringing it to E3 doesn't mean a relaunch either. They are just reminding PS3 players that they are still around and are going to show them what the game will be like when they get there. As one who watches videos and reads/watches reviews you should know that the game is going to be a bit different in V2.0 so players should get a peek at the way things are going to be and not what they were. Again, this is advertising a revamped version of a product...not relaunching.
As far as you being level 13...could care less. I realize that people restart characters on other servers or walked away from the game before and are returning so I read what they have to say first and see if they really know what they are talking about. After reading what you have said I have come to the conclusion that you do not have enough working personal experience with the game to say it is good or bad. You gave it a try and did not like it and are validating your opinion with the opinions of others. I think you made a snap judgement on something you have not fully experienced. If you bought the game and it was free for a year I am not quite sure why you would do this but hey to each their own.

When I first played in Alpha/beta I defended the flaws "oh its alpha/beta, will be fine later" after release though (and yes I bought the Collectors) I was a bit disappointed, I messed with it for a month and dropped it for a good while, but I kept an eye on it because I do love Final Fantasy...... I started messing with it again after 1.8 and even more so in 1.9 but to be honest, other then this one time story and me leveling my crafting and practicing mage classes, I wont get serious till 2.0
Is it still worth my money per month? yes, because it will entertain me with new things to do no matter when I pick it up and play it.
For me, I don't mind to pay.
But what I am worrying about is that, they going to make us to pay 1 year ahead before the 2.0 launch. And then once 2.0 released, we realized that everything is changed, and what we will have done in 2012 will become "Dated characters", "Dated Junks", etc. So everything we doing prior 2.0 is just simple wasted effort.
Then we realized that what we have been paying for, is to fund SE to continue the 2.0 project.
I'm proud of all you loyalists are admitting you are basically helping them fund a project.
You guys forget you are, or we are, part of a big minority in the MMO market. As far as MMOs, or even online games go, we are a very small player base. Too small. And now, SE wants to split us up again?
You do realize, that it's commonplace on the internet that everyone thinks as I do? because we are not blinded by faith? because most people who play online rpgs, or rpgs at all, would not touch FFXIV with a 10 foot pole?
You guys can huddle together and go "you go girl" to each other all you want. SE is not going to make money off of you in the next year. I can't believe you guys can go as far to say that even if ONE person pays for the subs, they make money.
You fail to realize that this is not the year that matters. It is when 2.0 launches. As of right now, FFXIV is really, really below market standards for an online only game. They took 100 steps backwards when they developed and released this game. Now, when 2.0 launches, by that time they promise it will be to market standards.
the problem I am seeing here is, I don't think anyone who are buying MMORPGs in 2012 holiday season are going to give a fuck. You don't realize how bad a bad launch for an MMORPG can be. It can be the absolute death of it from the get-go. Now, the new dev team are working extremely hard to get this game back on track, I realize that. But, another year of basically "bad" game, -and- you have to pay for it? NO ONE NEW IS GOING TO BUY THE GAME, at best in 2012, the few of us who bought this game on launch day may come back after 2.0

Stop whining. They are charging for the game. Deal with it. Better yet, go away. You're a useless waste of space.I'm proud of all you loyalists are admitting you are basically helping them fund a project.

Normally I don't respond to this kind of crap, but you really are helping no one by posting this. You loyalists really are making the community look like utter garbage to those who look to us from the outside. If someone wanted to actually look into this game, check the forums, and read all of your hateful bullshit, they may not buy this game. You guys really don't care that you get new players at all, do you? You just want to huddle together and shun everyone else who has any doubt. You guys really are starting to disgust me as a FFXIV player.
This game will do just fine without you or anyone like you. Also take a look in the mirror. You have been spouting hate ever since you started posting on these forums. Get a life.Normally I don't respond to this kind of crap, but you really are helping no one by posting this. Wow I have not been spouting hate. Things like "Get out you waste of space" is spewing hate. What I have "spewing" is my opinion about FFXIV and how they should not be charging us quite yet, and then my reasoning. You are a fucking moron, there, now I'm spewing hate.
And no, the game will not do just fine without players like me. Keep pushing players who have an open mind away from the game, and the game may shut down due to lack of player base.
