"The cities have people in them, clearly the game is well-populated!"
Clearly people with little to no MMO experience talking. The WORLD is supposed to be packed with hundreds of people, with dozens of parties in every single zone. FFXI's zones were packed to the GILLS at all times. But be blind, be ignorant, and be volatile. That'll keep a community going.
People really need to stop comparing this to XI considering the huge differences. But if you must do so, here's an example:"The cities have people in them, clearly the game is well-populated!"

Valkurm Dunes (cue collective moaning)
There were three GOOD lizard camps and one excellent gob camp that EVERYONE fought over. Why? Because there were only three GOOD lizard camps and one excellent gob camp.
Now let's take....Thanalan.
Thanalan is FREAKING HUGE. There are more camps than you can shake a staff at. This applies to every single zone you can EXP in.
XIV's world currently isn't going to be cram packed like XI because the areas are more expansive, the camps are more numerous, and the options for things to fight are greater.
Edit: I anticipate this to be a little better depending on how they choose to break down the areas into zones.

calling thanalan a "zone" is a very bad term for itPeople really need to stop comparing this to XI considering the huge differences. But if you must do so, here's an example:

And its the point that has been tried to get across. Why the hell do you play if you are not having fun? Why do you do something that is not enjoyable to you? surely not against your will?.
Square Enix feels the type of fun being delivered in 1.19 and soon in 1.20 deserves a fee, that is all. You either decide to keep having fun and pay (Like every other form of service that requires a fee provided to you) or you don't and come back later.
My opinion is people are having fun with the game, a lot of fun. But hey, now you need to pay to keep having fun and some feel they should keep having fun for free, well, you just got a reality check, you will have to pay.

I'll consider Thanalan, La Noscea etc as regions, as vedis said. Even so, I've seen all the various areas of the regions jam-packed, ranging from low level players to the highly elite. I certainly would not call this game empty.
Ale: how could you forget Limsa Lominsa and Gridania? It's boring Old'ah you should be forgetting.![]()
