    Dunegeons.

2 Questions I have about dungeons.
    • Is the limit break shared between the party or is it mine? I don't want to use it if it is shared!
    • How come I never seem to get any of the loot? What could I be doing wrong? I press need, greed or pass. Does this system work differently than other MMOs in this regard?

The limite break is shared, it's one LB for the whole group
(Most of the time à DPS will use it, and tank or heal in time of real crisis)

If you need you will get it
Greed is against the whole group and pass... Well

If you did not change your options, the items must have gone into your armoury
    CTRL+i and check it !

    Welcome to Eorzea!

As Nekotee mentioned, the LB gauge is shared among all members of the party - what Limit Break is executed depends on the class/Job role of whomever activates the Limit Break (for instance, as a MRD if you activate it the Limit Break that will be used will be the tank one that greatly increases defense and damage resistance to the entire party (at higher levels individual classes will get their own unique Limit Breaks that differ depending on what class/Job they are, but the gauge is still shared among the party). This page explains how the Limit Break system works.

As for treasure lotting in dungeons, the system basically works as 'Need' is determined by the piece of gear being regarded as specifically suitable for the class or Job you currently are, for instance, a tank can lot 'need' on a piece of tank-specific gear (that specifically says it can only be used by MRD, GLA, WAR, PLD and DRK) where as all other classes could only lot 'greed'.

If no one lots 'Need' on it, then a dice roll determines who gets it from all those who lot 'Greed'. If there are multiple people lotting 'Need', again a dice roll determines who receives the item. And 'Pass' should be pretty easy to determine - it's where you don't wish to receive the item and sacrifice your claim to it (if everyone passes on the item it's lost for good).

I'm not sure how 'Need' works for gear which can be used by all classes, but I guess the stats for it might have some influence, such as Disciple of War gear with higher DEX might be more suited to ranged classes like ARC and MCH. But I have no idea if that is indeed the case, so take that with a grain of salt.

Welcome to Eorzea! I hope you're enjoying yourself so far!

Everyone above did a great job describing looting and limit break so I won't go into that. However, the gear you are winning may go in to your "armory chest", an area separate from your main inventory that holds he's, including everything currently equipped. To check if you have gear in there, you can choose the item slot in your character screen and see what is there, or go in via the Armoury Chest option, underneath the inventory option.

I personally prefer my loot drops to go into my inventory where I can quickly see what I got. If you find your gear is in the armory chest instead of the inventory, you can change gear to be deposited into the inventory instead under the Character Settings window.

All gear has a particular set of classes/jobs that it's designed for, even if more than that can wear it. For instance, a lot of lower level caster gear is set to "All Classes" in terms of who is allowed to wear it, but only DoM classes can select Need when rolling for it.

It's only non-gear loot (like crafting components, for instance) that allow anyone who wants it to select "Need"

It's pretty straightforward. If anybody selects Need, then only the players selecting Need get to roll for the item. If nobody selects Need, then everyone who selected Greed gets to roll for it. Pass means you don't want to roll regardless. Which ones you're allowed to select depends on the item and your current class. If a piece drops that's suited to your current class, you can select any of the three options. If it's not suited to your current class, then you can only select Greed or Pass, but not Need. In some cases, if you already have the same item, you might not be able to select anything other than Pass. (That comes up only if it's an item marked as "Unique", meaning you're not allowed to have more than one of them.)

If you haven't been getting anything, it's probably just a string of bad luck. A certain collection of possible items that can drop from each chest, and something will be selected randomly to drop any given run. Sometimes it will be suited to your class and sometimes it won't. If it drops a tank piece, then as tank, you'd easily be able to get it by rolling "Need". If it drops a piece geared for damage dealers or casters, then you may be able to roll for it with Greed if nobody else selects Need. (But in that case, it would only be useful to you when/if you decide to advance other classes.) Try often enough and eventually the useful stuff you want will drop for you.
