Pretty soon you will be able to farm for the anima weapons so don't worry if you are looking for something to farm for. The mounts is interesting to me and I find it ugly. Cash shop will continue have exclusive vanity items but they are not worrying me if they keep it like this. I don't want the same mount in different color. The game has already a big variety of mounts to obtain and more will come in future.

Would be in similar fashion to calling Kirin an alternative Sleipnir, their base skeleton is the same but otherwise it has a different model and textures too.

How weird - On the one side people like to have those magitek mounts as a drop on Castrum raids, on the other side they don't want to keep the elemental ponies on the drop table on Ex primal fights.

Ya guys are quite the oddballs when it comes to such discussions.

It's called different people have different opinions? That's the worst kind of generalizations people can do.

IMO, I think it would have been nice to have them as a reward in Castrum/Praetorium.

Don't really see the point to any of this in the thread, since this is all opinion and not even relevant.

Well FFXIV being a WoW clone with FF elements isn''t an opinion, it's fact.

Yoshida feels that the creators didn't recognize that the global standard of MMOs had been significantly raised in recent years. He would have suggested a different path for the game—one that mirrored FFXI's own creation. "I think it would've been good if they tried seeing what happened if they turned World of Warcraft into Final Fantasy."
    - what they did with FFXIV.

Which is why I don't understand the hate for WoW, or FFXI for that matter. "Hey, WoW has this cool thing, can we bring this over here?" gets met with "OMG THIS ISN'T WOW, go back to WoW you WoW filth". If someone dislikes WoW that strongly and enjoys FFXIV, they've either never played WoW, or are seriously "fanboying" FFXIV and believe it is a perfect game. But yeah, it's irrelevant. :x

I just don't understand how that's relevant in a thread that's a discussion about the moral/business utilities of a cash shop in a game as a juxtaposition to it's content. If you were talking about FFXIV's cash shop in relation to WoW, then I'd be open to that discussion. But WoW vs FFXIV strictly from a gameplay perspective doesn't make any sense.

Also, I would argue that FFXIV is NOT a clone of WoW, but that's neither here nor there.

Well.. There is also the consideration of familiarity. FFXIV wanted to compete with WoW. And just like smart phones, PCs, cars, TVs, etc etc, if a particular design works well it starts to become a sort of standard for other brands to match. Each manufacturer has their own variation of each theme, but for the most part we see things being copied, particularly successful things, in many different products across the market. As consumers we usually like this because it means most products operate with the same functionality. If you can create a new contact with an iPhone, then you can easily create a new contact on Android phone (lame example but the point remains valid) Eventually there will be a breakthrough design that changes the status quo, and everything shifts to meet that new standard and the cycle repeats.

For one thing, you're partially correct about the fact that it's not relevant about this thread. However, for what I know the WoW Cash Shop is mostly filled with items that can only be obtained in that shop and are, in general, avoidable.Sure, a lot of them are reskins of existing mounts or pets, but the game alone has more than hundreds of mounts and pets without the shop: it's easy to obtain any mount you want by just farming the raids you want, which is something that this game BARELY does and only applies to Trials and I think A4S. Ah and also pvp but it's been dead since its release.

Also, FFXIV, a lot of the cash shop items were free once and the new mounts aren't even new (Sleipnir excluded): heck they're not even reskins, they're just recolored model of the one you get at the end of MSQ! That's lazyness at it's pure finest and like I said in my post, if people buy anything that SE throws at us expect them to deliver even more lazily put together items in the future. We buy it afterall and you can be sure as "eff" that they will take advantage of it, to the point of breaking the game at one point. It won't be today or tomorrow but, if that day happens, I'll be here to say "I told you!"

And yes I'm being pessimistic so don't take me too seriously.

PS: You can argue as much as you want, but FFXIV still remains a WoW clone at its core. Keyword being "the core": everything else is different, but not always in a good way ("cough" hunts "Cough")

I heard WoW and FFXIV are merging. They said it's gonna be Eorzeazeroth: Realm of Warcraft. I dunno about that though. The person who told me was an avid Cash Shop afficianado that was against making purchases in the Cash Shop. They said they felt like one day the game will be pay-to-win if the Cash Shop isn't abolished. This person told me that they have purchased several items from the Cash Shop as they just had to have a lot of the items that can only be obtained via the cash shop, as they are a completionist, and wanted to make sure that they had the items as part of their collections. They did however rant about how they felt like they were made to make their cash shop purchases against their will, due to not being able to complete their collections without making their cash shop purchases.

On a more serious note, I don't care about the Cash Shop. There's nothing there of any interest to me, and the mounts in question, are not really my style. In fact, I rarely ever even use my magitek mounts as I feel that they are too large and take up too much of the screen unless I zoom all the way out. I do feel that it is unnecessary to bash others, or give others grief, for being in favor of the Cash Shop. It's been mentioned 459873498754893 times (Seriously, I counted every mention, in every thread on the forums, and that was the number I got. Don't believe me? Recount!) that the Cash Shop will never be pay-to-win. If there is minion, or a mount, on the Cash Shop that you like, but hate to have to shell out additional money for, I encourage you to buy it. YOLO, right? I see it as being akin to purchasing action figures or vehicles for action figures. Stuff to play with for fun that doesn't contribute anything to the betterment of anything other than your happiness and the bottom line of a business. At least in this case you're contributing to SE and we can hope that the funds will go towards development costs to make the game bigger and better, and possibly even allow SE to fund other projects so they can develop other great games for us to enjoy.
