Well FFXIV being a WoW clone with FF elements isn''t an opinion, it's fact.
- what they did with FFXIV.Yoshida feels that the creators didn't recognize that the global standard of MMOs had been significantly raised in recent years. He would have suggested a different path for the game—one that mirrored FFXI's own creation. "I think it would've been good if they tried seeing what happened if they turned World of Warcraft into Final Fantasy."
Which is why I don't understand the hate for WoW, or FFXI for that matter. "Hey, WoW has this cool thing, can we bring this over here?" gets met with "OMG THIS ISN'T WOW, go back to WoW you WoW filth". If someone dislikes WoW that strongly and enjoys FFXIV, they've either never played WoW, or are seriously "fanboying" FFXIV and believe it is a perfect game. But yeah, it's irrelevant. :x

I just don't understand how that's relevant in a thread that's a discussion about the moral/business utilities of a cash shop in a game as a juxtaposition to it's content. If you were talking about FFXIV's cash shop in relation to WoW, then I'd be open to that discussion. But WoW vs FFXIV strictly from a gameplay perspective doesn't make any sense.
Also, I would argue that FFXIV is NOT a clone of WoW, but that's neither here nor there.
For one thing, you're partially correct about the fact that it's not relevant about this thread. However, for what I know the WoW Cash Shop is mostly filled with items that can only be obtained in that shop and are, in general, avoidable.Sure, a lot of them are reskins of existing mounts or pets, but the game alone has more than hundreds of mounts and pets without the shop: it's easy to obtain any mount you want by just farming the raids you want, which is something that this game BARELY does and only applies to Trials and I think A4S. Ah and also pvp but it's been dead since its release.
Also, FFXIV, a lot of the cash shop items were free once and the new mounts aren't even new (Sleipnir excluded): heck they're not even reskins, they're just recolored model of the one you get at the end of MSQ! That's lazyness at it's pure finest and like I said in my post, if people buy anything that SE throws at us expect them to deliver even more lazily put together items in the future. We buy it afterall and you can be sure as "eff" that they will take advantage of it, to the point of breaking the game at one point. It won't be today or tomorrow but, if that day happens, I'll be here to say "I told you!"
And yes I'm being pessimistic so don't take me too seriously.
PS: You can argue as much as you want, but FFXIV still remains a WoW clone at its core. Keyword being "the core": everything else is different, but not always in a good way ("cough" hunts "Cough")

Because WoW-players want to bring more things from there to FFXIV, when this games should be walking the path to be more of a FF. I see a lot of players saying they don't like certain things because "a MMORPG shouldn't be like this, look at WoW for example".
You know Brachiosaur? The one dino that casts meteor? I read a group of WoW players that migrated here saying it was bad design, that SE has "no imagination and create dinos that cause meteors". They didn't even know that the mob came from FFVI where he also casts meteor and is the most powerful normal encounter monster.
It sincerely disgusts me to see people who know nothing about this franchise try to change this game for the worst. All this hardcore raid mentality, elitist mentality, "don't add relics because it's gonna ruin the raids", "MSQ is too big, the game shouldn't require us to do it", all these things, they don't belong in a Final Fantasy game and every time I see them on the forums, they're coming from a WoW player.

When another game does something that players like and the game you're currently playing doesn't, it's okay to make the comparison. Even if that game is WoW.
I'm willing to bet that there are number of players that never touched WoW that also never touched FF6. Are you expecting that we've all played all the FF games in order to play this one? If it was a requirement to understand and play this game, the servers would be more of a ghost town than they are now.You know Brachiosaur? The one dino that casts meteor? I read a group of WoW players that migrated here saying it was bad design, that SE has "no imagination and create dinos that cause meteors". They didn't even know that the mob came from FFVI where he also casts meteor and is the most powerful normal encounter monster.
I'm going to go out on a limb and suggest that you don't actually know that. Hardcore mentality isn't unique to WoW players. The "digust" you're expressing over people who haven't played every step of this franchise is pretty elitist as well.It sincerely disgusts me to see people who know nothing about this franchise try to change this game for the worst.
Insanity is a gradual process, don't rush it - Ford Prefect
The idea of a Brachiosaur casting Meteor is silly and absurd - even if it's a throwback to FFVI, it would still be absurd in that game too. I don't really remember FFVI myself very well - but honestly... Are you telling me you don't find something comedic about a Dinosaur casting Meteor?
I gotta say though, I -hate- the Brachiosaur myself. Not from the context of him being a 'rediculous' enemy (far from it, that makes me giggle every time) - I just hated the mechanic of meteor There's no way to prevent it, so it is literally a damage-soak-and-heal-through it mechanic. There are other boss-level enemies in Diadem that actually prove there are interesting mechanics.
When the mamoth spawns, I know whcih of its skills to Silence to prevent it from applying a heavy on everyone so they can better handle its attacks. This is an example of GOOD mechanics. Brachiosaur, though, every time I see it, I role my eyes. There is nothing I can do as a healer, tank, or DPS to handle his mechanic. It is literalyl get hit -> Heal. You can LoS if there is something nearby but that will not always be the case.

Well it is true that a majority of XIV players have not played any other Final Fantasy game in the series so many references are lost on them.
My time when I was on NA servers when Mor Dhona was the end game area was people whining about how much they miss WoW.
Some people don't even know that Knights of the Round (King Thordan) is from VII o_o
None of the games are connected anyway so it doesn't matter really, just wish people would remember what this game is called.
XIV is a FF game to me first and a WoW clone second.

I do know about the franchise and my username is a proof of my past love not only for Final Fantasy but also for Square Enix games in general. Do "we" disgust you at the point that it bothers your game experience? I ask because, whenever I hear people mentioning how good this community is, here comes someone who hates "us" so much because we lack the "knowledge" of the franchise. That's what we call "Elitism" you know.
I play WoW and it has its good and bads. I play FFXIV and it has its good and bads. However, since I'm currently playing THIS game it's a legitimate concern when something isn't working properly, such as the cheap cash in from the shop. But I'm sure that you'll also find others who also will complain and most likely never played WoW in all their entire life. Do they disgust you too, even if some of their points may or may not be correct?
I used to love the franchise but it's these kind of people who made me quit this love.
