That's a good point, although it's worth noting there's 2 distinct versions. Those my retainers brought back do not have the "General-purpose" prefix and so can't be sold, traded, etc etc.
However, they're effectively the same thing I guess...

I understand blocking people from buying gear. But I think people would be much happier bein able to obtain it instead of paying 5-20 dollars. And the people who want the easy way. If SE is worried giving the white mount for doing castrum will somehow stop sales? It might a little but I promise most people who can buy it probably will do it the easy way. It's a small price to pay to keep the entire base happy, and they can probably add more cosmetic things to the mog shop down the road. Getting day gold saucer dance should be MGP only for a decent cycle then bring it in mog shop to buy for people who want to dance but golden saucer isn't their thing. So far, it appears SE's policy is that if it's obtainable in game, it can't be bought in the mog station, and vice versa. (Previously obtainable items are fair game).
To my knowledge, however, they've never publicly commented on this policy nor mentioned their reasoning.
cosmetics ONLY.
I hate to say it, but SE's recent grimey actions are actually pushing me to a point where I want to unsub or let my sub lapse. It'd be the first time it'd happened since the game first came out - so it's not something I really like the idea of. Nowadays the main thing keeping me around isn't that the game's fun or engaging. It's that I love the people I hang out with - but I have them on skype.
To those saying that "Go ahead and just unsub. You wont' affect anything." take a look at SWOTR. People said the same thing when it was labed the "TORtanic"... game went F2P. Take a look at wildstar. Game went F2p. Take a look at TERa. game went f2p.
People seem to fail to realise that keeping your current subbase happy while simultaneously seeking to attract new subbers to the game are equally important endeavors. Slack in one and you might find yourself in a sinking ship.

A lot of people here seem to think that them threatening to unsub will do something. They seem to forget that most of the population of the games barely, if ever, touches the forums, and I havent really seen anyone in game complaining about it and I've already seen a decent amount of the new magitek mounts. Most people in game really don't seem to care much and the minority (the forum goers) seem to think that the few of them possibly unsubbing (most of which wont actually) will do anything to change SE's mind
there's really nothing to prove one way or another if the 'majority' agrees with those saying they'll let their sub lapse, or if the majority is happy and content doing content. As I said - there are plenty of games that have had the logic of "Let the whiners unsub! everything's perfect!" as they crashed and burned.
All I'd suggest is to show respect for the opinions of those who say it as such - don't disrespect them, because all you're doing is cutting your nose to spite your face.
With any luck, if people do unsub, and the reaction is drastic enough, then SE will fix the issue. If it's not a serious enough issue in SE's eyes, then they will keep going the way they are and if they ever DO push people away they'll eventually stop.
But I really hope this trend of disrespect for people stops.

I honestly don't understand why everyone is salty about 2 mount recolours being sold for a meager $12
It's understandable really - Sleipneir alone made them over half a million dollars (28k+ people with the mount x the price...), if these sell anywhere close then that's worth more than any person that gets all bent out of shape and unsubs over this.
Yay, a $12 mount that may be used for a week and then quickly be forgotten!

It boils down to -I want mount, they give me lots of mounts, I want THIS mount, ohno it costs money, SE is a greedy corporation who hates their players and is literally Hitler. That's what I see here.
Go ride a dragon.

It would incline rush parties to be invented often in that place, also having new players being forced (more) to skip cutscenes. Good move imoAny reason that you have to pay for it instead of taking advantage of the new Undersized party feature in Heavensward and making it an insanely low drop rate from Castrum Meridianum's Livia Sas Junius? (I'm talking like 1%-5%)
Maybe give us something to farm while waiting for resets, either on our own or with parties, AND an optional recolor mogshop mount? (not having the white in mogshop and having a red and a different color in the shop)
