Free Login Event completely undermines inactive housing

Was it even considered what impact this event would have on the housing system? Unless SE specifically changed how the system works in preparation for this event (serious doubt,) anyone with long-time inactive accounts that hasn't accessed their house can now log in and completely undermine the demolition system.

Is SE trying to make it hard to get a house or something? They send email alerts to accounts with inactive housing, and they'd be dumb not to email advertisements about this campaign to inactive accounts as well.

I wouldn't say completely as not everyone is going to return... and those who will refresh the inactivity period are just going to lose their houses a little bit later.

Just make that an inactive suscription doesn't count.

Yikes...well, that will probably reduce the number of houses that were due to release on 12/25 by a non-insignificant amount - what a horrible time to introduce this for all the loyal, active players that were looking forward to buying a plot. (though clearly the 4th quarter numbers must be looking bad, so yeah...)

My thoughts exactly. Though any of these people not truly interested in remaining active will simply have their houses removed another 45 days from the new login. So expect another (small) stagger of houses opening up early Feb.

This crap blows my mind. So are they going to introduce this every 44 days so inactive people can keep their homes without supporting the game? This was a really bad move. I am seeing this more and more with SE....I am losing faith.

I would imagine the two events coming together is no coincidence. So, yes, I'd imagine it was considered very carefully.

To the people saying those of us wanting to buy a house will just have to wait a little longer, I'm sure not all returning players will stick around.
However, I'm also sure Square wouldn't have done this if they didn't expect to retain a good proportion of those subscriptions.

For the people without a house, this is bad news.

I doubt it would undermine it, maybe just postpone it on some properties. The ones owned by players who truly aren't interested in coming back no matter what will still open up on Christmas, and the ones that only care enough to log in once to tag the house during a free login event will still open up eventually. It's the long-inactive ones that will resub just to keep their house that would hurt the most, and if they're willing to pay then you wouldn't have stopped them from keeping it off the market anyway.

The point is that this will set back the already limited number of houses that are going to open up on any given server. Those of us with houses are in a fine place, but if a person doesn't want to pay just to visit their house once to make sure they keep it, they'll be sure to log in for the free weekend. So in a way, it does undermine the reclaim feature. SE is making some of the worst choices in the housing department, and then a free log in weekend just before the timers go up is, quite frankly, a slap in the face for people who have been saving gil and waiting all this time for housing. There won't be nearly enough to meet the demand, and with this there will likely be even less.
