Wolves' Den PvP Tournament - The Great Aether Cup II - Hosted by PvP Reborn and Enjin

It’s once again time for a Wolves’ Den 4vs4 tournament! PvP Reborn, Enjin, and the Aether PvP Community would like to formally invite teams across all Data Centers to the second Great Aether Cup. So get ready to put those Wolves Den solo queue skills to the test, and battle alongside your friends against other teams around the world!

Event: The Great Aether Cup II

    Data Center: Aether

Tournament Date: Friday, December 4th, 2015, at 8:00 p.m. (EST)

Entry Period: Friday, November 13th to Tuesday, December 1st, at 11:59 p.m. (EST)

Duty: The Wolves’ Den (IL80, Light Party)

How to Watch: On the day of the event, teams that will be streaming this tournament will be posted on http://pvpreborn.com/tournament

    Prizes

Prizes from PvP Reborn will be awarded to each individual player for the winning team. These prizes include:

    • Glamour Items
    • Minions
    • Dyes

Prizes from Enjin will be awarded to the top three teams of the tournament. These prizes include:

    • 1st place team: 12 months of Advanced plan website hosting
    • 2nd place team: 6 months of Advanced plan website hosting
    • 3rd place team: 3 months of Advanced plan website hosting

The Advanced plan features can be seen here. More information on these prizes will be shared with your team’s representative.

    Tournament Rules

    • All players on a team must be on the same server
    • Each team is limited to 5 players on their roster.
    • IMPORTANT: Average PvP rank of team as a whole must be 48 or higher. This is due to Wolves’ Den matchmaking system and will allow matches to have no wait time to pop.
    • All items, equipment, and abilities are allowed.
    • Teams may rotate players and jobs between matches, regardless if they win or lose.
    • Disconnections that occur during the match period will be disregarded, and no rematch will be held. Disconnections that occur during the lobby period (1 minute) may warrant rematches.

    Tournament Format

This tournament will be using Round Robin, meaning that each participating team will get to go against all other participating teams in the tournament.

    • If more than 8 teams participate, each round robin set will be a best of 3 series (first to two wins).

    • If 8 or less teams participate, each round robin set will be a best of 5 series (first to three wins).

    • The top 4 teams will then advance to a single elimination bracket with the following matchmaking:

    • 1st place vs 4th place team, best of 5
    • 2nd place vs 3rd place team, best of 5
    • These placements will be determined by the results from round robin.

    • Winning teams from the first set of the single elimination bracket will face off in the championships (best of 5), whereas the losing teams will compete for 3rd place (best of 5).

Please do not post personal contact information directly to this thread!

    • Optional: Let us know more about your team! Pre- and post-tournament questionnaires (team interviews), consisting of 5 questions each, will be sent to the lead representative’s email on December 1st and immediately after the closure of the event respectively, and they will subsequently be posted on this thread. Please discuss the questions with your team and have the lead representative submit answers to support@pvpreborn.com within 48 hours from the issuance of the questionnaires. Please limit the length for each answer to 150 words. Further instructions will be provided through email.

    • On the day of the event, the team representative from each team must be logged on to the Great Aether Cup II group chat on Skype at 7:00 p.m. (EST). All participating teams must be ready by 7:30 p.m. (EST). Teams that are not ready by that time will not be considered and consequently disqualified.

    • When all participating teams are ready, Round Robin 1 matchups will be assigned and corresponding queuing instructions will be issued via Skype. IMPORTANT: Please carefully follow the queuing instructions in order to ensure smooth proceeding of the event. These instructions will be shared on Skype.

    • After each match between two teams, the team representative from the winning team will report the outcome of the matchup via Skype. However, it is recommended that players screenshot all game scoreboards to prevent any disputes.

    • The outcome will be posted on PvP Reborn and updated on this thread.

This should be a fun event for all players interested in PvP. Whether you're a seasoned Wolves' Den player or a new one trying to improve for Patch 3.2, you are encouraged to participate and meet other like-minded players along the way!

Edit: Time of event changed to 8 p.m. EST, same time as solo queue event normally is.

I'm really looking forward to the tournament. I can't participate due to my rank, but I love watching the streams.

It makes me sad to see no activity in this thread, have no other teams signed up? I understand many people aren't signing up because they don't really stand a chance of winning 1st prize, but the more teams that sign up, the more well-rounded it'll be. Who knows, one team might get lucky and underdog their way to victory!

We actually have a few teams finalizing their team rosters and plan to register soon. =)

However, all teams that meet the requirements are definitely encouraged to register, as it's a great opportunity to play with your friends and practice. Even if you've never done Wolves' Den before, it'll give you a good glimpse as to what Wolves' Den 2.0 might be like, learn different strategies, and help you prepare for it!

I'm glad to hear there are teams interested. I was worried there wouldn't be after the last tournament, especially given how much fuss there was about one team supposedly having a big advantage over everyone else.

To those on the fence or worried that it's not worth entering because the competition is fierce, you should still enter.

My team is extremely beatable. Obviously we're going to aim big, but we're entering this tournament to support the community, motivate ourselves to get better, and to have fun. I can't tell you the number of super smash brothers tournaments I've entered where I had literally zero chance of even coming close to winning. My first big melee tournament I played this guy who mains fox and just absolutely took me to the cleaners and 4-stocked me (I believe his tag was "Beta"). He then played mew2king the next round, who summarily destroyed him (4-stocked).

That was when I learned how big the skill gap was and just how far I had to go - not only was there a guy who was way better than me, there was a guy way better than him. Instead of just giving up on Smash, I got extremely motivated. I now understood there were so many ways I could improve. By going to tournaments I was exposed to a new level of gameplay that I would have never experienced otherwise, and I was able to get a taste of the game played at the highest levels. Doing so I was able to improve substantially, and at the same time I had a lot of fun and met new friends.
