You seriously want us to wait till 2013?
What the hell are you gonna do to keep us here for another year? :S

Keep releasing promises and edited screenshots.
Moogle raid? trying to stop Garlean from launching Meteor onto Eorzea? idk there is content coming in.
Also...you finally gonna start charging...without adding half of what you want first?
I will be graduating on college and be free to play a lot when 2.0 hits ;3
It's in essence a brand new game. Two years of development is lightning-quick for a game of this magnitude.
I dont know...Im all up for this game (hell thats why I started the "mentor" system) but I feel that they shouldnt start charging yet... I mean...we are hardly getting any new players at all... if they learn they have to pay for playing a game thats currently in progress... I dont think anyone will pay except for us (the ppl who have stayed here since pretty much alpha/beta)
IMO, what they should do is get some serious names backing this game up and giving them money to get more staff to make the changes happen faster.
Then again maybe 10/15 dollars per month isnt really expensive.
I agree with you in principle. The thing is, this is a tremendous undertaking. Most other companies would've cut their losses by now (remember Tabula Rasa or Earth & Beyond?), but this is a very unique situation. We're talking about the future of the Final Fantasy franchise here. If XIV fails, it will be the end of Final Fantasy. Yeah, it could be argued that the franchise has run its course and then some, but if it's going to end it needs to end on a high note, and presently XIV is not the way anyone wants to see this series die.I dont know...Im all up for this game (hell thats why I started the "mentor" system) but I feel that they shouldnt start charging yet... And here's where it's unique. SE already put their money into creating FFXIV. They've put their money into keeping the game in service for no additional charge to us for over a year since release. Now they are developing an almost entirely new game from scratch. They have a team of 250 people working on it (which is enormous even for a big budget blockbuster game). They've sunk a ton of money into this game, and are taking a huge gamble with FFXIV 2.0. They are charging us a premature subscription fee in order to protect their business. If they keep things free-to-play, and FFXIV 2.0 fails, SE is out of business. Two years of major development with zero revenue, coupled with the PR disaster of a flagship game failing twice? But with XIV generating revenue, even if it isn't that much (and it won't be), they can at least relieve a portion of the financial burden.
This is gonna sound really corny, but as a fan of Final Fantasy from the very beginning, I almost feel a sense of pride in having the opportunity to be a part of this. I don't think something like this has ever been done in the history of MMORPGs, or any video game for that matter. Usually, it's only good games that get the remake treatment. SE is taking a bad game and trying to do it right. In my opinion, they're doing a decent job so far.
There is also the fact that those who continue playing will get to participate in a storyline (the destruction of the world, etc.) which those who join after 2.0 will never get to participate in. There is plenty of content being released between now and then, so why not keep playing?
