While I don't have a problem with the cash shop in general (although I wish they had not started putting old seasonal gear in it when it used to be purchasable in game for gil, even if only for a limited time) I do think that some of the more recent items are over priced. My general rule is I won't purchase any vanity-only item that costs more than my monthly sub.

I did buy the snowman minion though, since I was traveling last winter and could not get all the items from the starlight event. So I suppose they got me. /sigh

European prices are always a bit cheaper I believe (kinda glad Australia is put with EU). I just checked and it converts to about 11.15 USD, the mounts are 9 USD.

Look, the price of subscription based MMO has been unchanged for almost 17 years now. Around 15 bucks for a standard sub has been unchanged for quite some time, give or take a dollar or two. You know what has changed in the last 17 years? Operation and development costs. There is also general inflation to deal with as well. Despite those increased costs, game companies have to keep these sub fees cheap because how many people would buy into an mmo if it costed $25 a month to play?

I am sure ffxiv is profitable with $15 a month, but this game is not a charity. Because of the increased costs of running an MMO is bounding upward, margins on profitability have to be shrinking considerably. A company has to adapt in these circumstances. Now, what would you like ffxiv to be? We could have a $25 sub MMO, A F2P MMO, or we can keep our $15 a month and have a cash shop filled with useless frills. Personally, I like the last option because the current cash shop is hardly required. As long as SE stays away from BS like level boosts and the like, I don't see any issues. We get to have our cake (keep our low sub price) and eat it too (whales subsidize the increased costs of running an MMO).

Will I buy these mounts? Nope, I don't want or need them and considering how much time we spend on our mounts (not very long) I don't think this is a huge deal. If anything, slephnir was a travesty since there is no real variant available. At least these two mounts that were recently added are variations on existing in-game mounts.

Do I dislike the cash shop? Sure, I hate it, but I also understand what it does. It insulates me from having to pay more money per month. I can choose to supplement my subscription at my own leisure by buying a minion or an extra retainer at my own discretion. I would not play this game if I had to pay $25 a month, so I am glad that we have the cash shop.

Just going to comment that I saw these mounts added to the game last week, and with the red and white color scheme I thought MAYBE they would be tied in with the Christmas event in-game. Instead they are using them for seasonal colors in the mogstation store.

Now maybe they didn't want a repeat of Halloween, where the broom mount was datamined a month early, and Yoshida has said that 3.15 will be before Christmas, so maybe they will add something before then... but as of now, there are NO new mounts, bardings, or minions added to the game for the seasonal event. There are only housing decorations, santa beards, and reindeer outfit pieces (the old costume looks to have been split into separate parts).

I don't want to sound selfish, and I hope I'm wrong, but it does look like they are prioritizing mogstation over in-game event rewards.
