FFXIV 2.0 ... or FAILURE 2.0?

I undestand money is needed to continue what must be a very expensive revamp of fundamental game systems. However, I do not think that FFXIV is ready to ask customers for their money, given the current state of the game. The biggest problem here is that the game experience / functionality is simply not ready for primetime.

CASE IN POINT:

After yesterday's patch, I hopped on and got ready to do a Darkhold run.
Showed up with full PT, tried to enter instance. Upon entry, was given the old (40000)4 error. My char was now stuck inside Darkhold, unplayable. For the 3rd time since starting FFXIV, a patch had corrupted my game data.
Attempted to uninstall with a "Catastropic Failure" prohibiting that.
Manually deleted the FFXIV / My Games directories.
Tried to reinstall - seemed OK
After complete reinstall, redownload of patch data, the updater failed at the last moment with 20564 (another indication of a corrupted patch attempt).
Tried to uninstall. Uninstall failed again.
This time, I could not reinstall or uninstall, I was stuck, with no recourse or path to take to try to get the game working again.

Because I am an IT person, I manually searched the registry, deleted all the keys referencing FFXIV, and successfully reinstalled. The average user, however, cannot be expected to this.

Fundamental features like an updater MUST work before expecting average users to pay money for a game. Therefore, they can try to take people's money, but I predict FAILURE 2.0 instead of FFXIV 2.0.

Most people don't know what's going on at SE but any software engineer can tell you that SE is developing FFXIV under a software engineering model that purposely throws out a bunch of crappy version so they can get customer feedback and build another crappy version from the feedback untill they decide to release a final version. Customers feedback, even the ones that troll, plays a very improtant role because the feedback is key to reducing the chance of overall failure. I mean that was the point of the software engineering model anyway, to reduce overall failure.

But with that said, I don't beleive in charging my customers for a product that is incomplete unless I despretly needed the funds. The final problem now is that FFXIV has lost so many customers that all thats left playing FFXIV are hardcore fans so you're not getting feedback from the full spectrum of customers. Another reason FFXIV should remain free because that money barrier is going to get in the way of rebuilding the lost trust, or they can just risk investing money in advertisements lol.

i believe we're being charge for the content that is being brought for 1.21 (jobs and more content), 1.22 and 1.23, afterwards when 2.0 launch we'll be getting another 1 free month.

And it obviously does, otherwise nobody would be able to play.

If it doesn't work for someone, it's a sub fee lost for SE. It's pretty basic logic right there.

It's the customer's choice.

to the OP, who probably doesn't care anymore since this is a necro, looking at your series of events and how often they occur, I'd almost say you may want to check out your system first, the problems with uninstalling especially rings the alarm bells. Since you say you work in the IT field, I assume you've already done that. At which point, I'm not sure what to tell ya. The lack of any wide-spread complaints suggests that this is not something that happens very often, and at least from my personal experience, most cases of corruption/patching issues from online games tends to be user-side issues.

i can see where the OP is coming from. you can't really be expected to take out a 6 month sub only to have an update that will cause this problem, and stop you ever getting back in. this needs to be fixed

however this problem will not be happening with 2.0 i'm sure. it will be a new server and a new engine, SE knows there are problems right now, problems i guess that can't be fix with the system we have. that's why 2.0 is being made in the first place. so to say 2.0 is a failure. wrong

P.S. in the live letter from the producer. at the end they suggested they are looking into the amount we are charged. so its not like they are not listening or trying to please the customer while at the same time clawing back some of their loses

Im sorry but callling 2.0 a failure in point blank when its not even here yet, is trolling.
