I've never really been particularly interested in this subject much, but I've lurked in a few threads on various sites on the subject.
I've read the entire thread. (Apart from two pages that were supposedly deleted? I missed the fun!)

The more I read on this subject, the more I believe we need parsers.

I'm all for a personal parser, as information on how to improve your numbers can be found by looking, but I do think a group parser can work if set to a certain limit.

Basically a group parser that shows everyone's DPS, but only to a certain threshold. And that threshold is set by the devs on what they think is an acceptable number needed to clear an instance within a time limit of say 20-25mins. However, to you, it will show your personal number, even passed the threshold. Then it will still have a numbering system, so you could be at number 1 DPS, but to everyone else it will still only show the maximum threshold number but you will be number 1.

In a raid environment, you could potentially set it to show everyone's numbers, but only in a preformed party, like how the loot rules setting works. But anything that used via DF gets set to the standard like I explained above. Will there still be abuse? Probably, however you don't really have an excuse if it's a number SE at least expects players to be able to reach.

I would like a group parser for raid content but I would be okay with a personal parser. I want to improve on my dps classes and you can't really gauge how you are doing unless you have a parser running. The eminity bar doesn't cut it because of abilities. I always pop quelling whenever its up because blm but its not gonna give me an accurate dps assessment since I do that.

I skimmed through this thread and a lot of replies I've seen are "But people will ask you to show your dps and then kick you"
Ok so why not, just ignore and not play with those people?

This game does all the hard work for you, finding a party, so just leave, get kicked and queue up again. Why is that so hard? Why is that not an option?

I really don't want to get involved in this thread again but I thought I'd just leave this here:

You can record playback on a ps4 fairly easily (Not sure if it works for FFXIV? I don't see why it wouldn't). If your ultimate goal is to improve, its alot easier to see what you did wrong and how you did it wrong when your watching yourself play carefully not having to focus on anything else.

Didn't read the whole thing, but here is an example for the "but no one needs numbers anyway" crowd.

Newly formed static, with some people playing jobs that are not their main. Some people learn by reading guides, but others prefer to ask a friend who mains the job. First run at A1S and while we are mainly failing mechanics, DPS is also suspicious.

Luckily in our case, someone was running a parser, and we saw one DPS doing lower than they should. Questions were asked, and it turned out they were using a really underpowered rotation that they got from a friend. A different one was suggested, no feelings were hurt, and DPS was no longer a concern.

Sure, we could have reviewed each person's rotation instead, and while we did offer tips all around.. Knowing exactly which person needed the most help was useful. Plus, I like being able to go back and see where I made mistakes / know what I need to practice more. (I'm on PS4, so I'm not the one running it.)

Oh thanks for the reply, yeah I missed that chat window. Thanks

I imagine they have the code for a parser. I don't think that is the issue.

Because actually disliking parsers in inexplicable. How can you reasonably dislike a tool that is telling you how much damage you are doing and the details within like your accuracy, your crit rate, etc.? How can you dislike a tool that is made to help people improve.

Your issue is that you are deluding the reality to sell a misguided stance.

Why else do you continue to run into issues even when it doesn't pertain to parsers? Why did you receive harassment due to gear-swapping or 3rd party add-ons in WoW?

Maybe, JUST MAYBE, it isn't the fault of parsers, gear-swapping, and add-ons? Maybe it's actually the people who are at fault? And, maybe, instead of targeting the tools and inadvertently harming thousands of people, the obviously better option would be to deal with the small minority of people that are harassing others using the tool?

And, if you want to have an honest discussion then have one. Don't blatantly lie in your posts and act like you're speaking the truth.

PS players in this very topic are complaining about how they are at a disadvantage due to not being able to run a parser.

Also this facetious notion that not having a parser is the "worst thing in the world." Stop being an ass hat. Nobody is saying it's the worst thing in the world. But what people have provided is solid FACT after FACT about what you lose out on by not parsing.
