Overall the stat deviation from one of the few primary stats in any given role was in the +-10 range more often then naught. If you didn't have a good stat build, good luck being "effective" in the role you were suppose to be designated for and thus get you pushed away from parties / guilds.

I'm glad they fixed that in Renewal. It was always an interesting experience getting Guillotine Fist'd in WoE from a Champion rocking 130+ DEX and still have 150+ STR thanks to double Megingjard.. >>; It's even more glorious when you can Hide Clip / Safety Wall / Spell Break your way through that too because you anticipated their actions. lol.

Back then in Binding Coil Turn 5 against Twintania, I used to spec into 30 attribute points into Vit with Vit/Acc/Crit melded i70 accessories on my SCH when undergeared (i70 Vanya gear) to survive Fireball/Conflag/etc. Same thing for i90 accessories in Savage Second Coil and Final Coil.

Vit is useful if it will help you survive a mechanic you would otherwise not without it. As a SCH, you are generally expected to dps more in raid content so sacrificing too much Mind stat for Vit may not be worth it. Not to mention, having more Mind increases your shields, which may save a party member that is weakened, etc.

I use to take some VIT when I first started post50 content before Heavensward came out. After I did a bit of it I realized that VIT is useless on a healer who knows how to dodge AoEs. You don't need the extra HP if your tank is doing his job, and if you are doing your's. I now put all my points into MND.

VIT never hurts to have and the more the better, but generally it should be treated like Accuracy for DPS. If there is a mechanic that requires a certain HP threshold to comfortably avoid, such as there was in t13 or in A3S with Cascade, then it becomes your most important stat until you reach it. Then once reached, excess VIT is just bonus as you steadily increase your MND.

I usually craft/meld a VIT ring to use if needed, such as for the aforementioned instances, and then phase it out once the gear catches up and it's no longer required. But that said it never hurts to have more VIT, and you can also get it from food buffs if you have to. It just shouldn't be your priority past that point.

Crit has a bigger stat weight than Spell Speed for both healing and DPS, also Crit Adlos allow you to DPS more.

Theory crafters listed the stat weights for Scholar a while back and it was

Mind > Crit > Det > Spell Speed (Det & SS are really close in their weights though)

Obviously Piety and Accuracy have priority for what is needed on a fight to fight basis.

Unless your in early progression it really doesn't matter though, you can heal most content with sod all gear if you know what you are doing.

They got nerfed in 3.0, sadly it's not worth it any more

Also melding Vit isn't bad if it's needed, Scholars in early A4S progression melded Vit to help soak up the Discord orbs. If your melding accuracy accessories and have capped Accuracy and Crit it's probably more useful than a little SS or Det.

    Awwww. No fun!

The image of a scholar running around beating people with a huge textbook is hilarious and I truly hoped it was in the game in some form.

I'm sure some people are going to disagree with me when I say this...

I personally don't agree with your build, but if you have a group that somehow benefits from your build, then go for it.

I've said this before in other threads, but I mixed and matched crafted gear and 120 gear as WHM in favor of boosting my spell speed while sacrificing a little healing potency. My reasoning was that my heals were strong enough for my tank, but if something went wrong and I missed pulling off a heal prior to a boss's move landing, no amount of potency would matter. I needed my spells to be on par or faster than the boss's. My build worked for my team, but I also had the standard 120 gear set available if I needed to switch when running with random people. I never once had to do this, but it was there just in case.

Again, I can't say I agree with your build at all, and I most certainly would not recommend it in any of the content that was released recently. But that's the fun of getting gear and building stats with people: experimenting.

I use to go full vit SCH when I was leveling it/starting lv50 dungeons. But then I realized that it's not only a heal amount loss, it is a dps loss and a waste of points. If something doesn't kill you before you can heal, and if you barely take damage what's the point of going vit over mind?

This is only true for games like FFXIV. Ragnarok had so many possibilities, it was not only about math, about how much DPS or Raw Damage you could do, there was a lot of nuances, LOTS of different -- effective -- builds, specially for organized WoEs. And I can assure you, the best builds were not on forum guides.

I'll give you just some examples:

    pre-renewal:

High Wizards could be Damage Dealers or some kind of debuffers for WoE (Assaulter Build), with use of Lord of Vermilion to "lock" players in place and spam of Ganbaltein to pierce the enemy Land Protector/Magnetic Earth and eventual uses of Quagmire.

Scholars could be full support (the best build for WoE), or could lose support capabilities and focus on damage with Double Bolt build to have fun in PvP. Some FS Scholars like to put some points in STR to be able to carry more gems and pots, which is a very reasonable reason. Others prefer to put more points in VIT or even AGI (Attack Speed reduces animation lock).

    Renewal:

Warlocks can use Tetra Vortex build for focused single target damage or instead use Comet/White Imprison build for high AoE damage and debuff capabilities.

and so on and so forth, could give more examples that there is lots of different builds in RO, and you can confirm that going in any RO forum and see that even today, 10+years after, people still discuss different builds and different card combinations.

But yeah, I can't see this happening in FFXIV, because most skills are just that: Damage or Heal, and then what matters in the end is just math unfortunately.
