Kacho's Weird Tank Questions of the Week

In the interest of promoting friendly discussion and having some fun too, I proudly announce "Kacho's Weird Tank Questions." Tah-dah!

Let's say you have a friend with a marauder who despises tanking. They are only leveling the class to get the dragoon job. To assist their leveling and maybe score some green gear, you offer to tank a dungeon for them.

1. How much damage would your marauder friend do compared to someone who played a damage dealing class?

2. Would you enjoy the run for its challenge or would your friend's class make the run frustrating?

1. MRD is still pre-job levels of DPS, as I recall. It does more damage than GLD, but still won't be able to compete with a pure DPS class. There's also the fact that as MRD, your friend will be forced to queue as tank (unless you have a full party).

2. At the levels we're talking about, I don'r really think there would be too much of a challenge, so long as they followed the kill order. But really, if they're just doing it for DRG, it doesn't quite make sense to queue (as the minimum requirement, 15, is also the first level at which you can queue).

1. I think it's easier to compete with a pure dps class with a lvl 60war than with a lvl15 mrd (fell cleave/decimation ). BUT... Many lvl15 dps don't really know how to play, and mrd is one of the only class who can aoe at this lvl.... So if your friend is a quite good player and the other dps are beginners (or afk), I think he can compete.

2. It makes sense to queue, because mercy stroke is a lvl26 mrd skill and is useful as a cross-skill for drg. And at this level, it won't be a challenge and won't really be frustrating, the run would only be a bit longer.

1. Depends entirely on the DPS class in question and how many mobs you pull. PGL/LNC/ROG, for instance, would have no AoE capability 15-26 (aside from cross-class Death Blossom for non-ROG, but it's probably too weak to even consider). A MRD won't likely outdamage an ARC/THM/ACN/MCH, but it'll be close.

2. I would enjoy it about as much as any other low level run, I suppose. I certainly wouldn't think the MRD is holding the group back, assuming he's not incompetent.
