i like how they are gonna give us a brand new story that plays off the existing one in 2.0 instead of trying to mash things into the existing one. i was really worried about how they would maintain the lure and a catastrophic event sounds like just the right solution.
Ya it is my money, and no there is nothing blind about how things are going now. I know exactly where my hard-earned dollars are going. SE is something called a "company" so you can't expect they'd just let us play for free without a model to "make money" so they can give us ongoing content.Oh, and you had this in WoW too with the catacylsm, except you know, you wern't paying to play a crappy incomplete game while it happened.
But hey, don't try to justify you spending money to me, it's your money. If you want to blindly give it without questioning, thinking, or hesitating, that's all you.
I was here for the last year or so. I don't need to pay money to be involved with the history of the game.
I have to say, it's a great marketing scheme they're using. It says it in the .pdfs "pay money and be a part of the history of the game lol".
Money is what it all comes back to isn't it.Lyndis said it best already, but I'm going to respond simply because I dislike your attempts at downgrading my statement to mean that I want to pay to be elite (that can only be earned). What I am paying for is the chance to participate in helping SE grow the game into what it should have been from the start. The special titles or gears are things I think SE should grant the ones who stayed and paid (it's the least they can do as a thank you).
What about those of us who drudged through the crap over the last year, spending our valuable time trying to help them make the game better. What, just because we weren't paying means we aren't anything?
This is what impresses me most. Most companies would handle this all wrong and cut the game off to redo it (APB anyone?) or scrap it altogether. I applaude SE for using in-game lore to turn this game around and giving us something interesting to experience while we wait for the rebirth of this game. Smoothly done. That is what I call game design... turning a pile of poo into a field of flowers.i like how they are gonna give us a brand new story that plays off the existing one in 2.0 instead of trying to mash things into the existing one. i was really worried about how they would maintain the lure and a catastrophic event sounds like just the right solution.
Ya money is definitely what it boils down to in mmo's. And at least they made it free2play and apologized profusely. They did what any respectable company would do with a flagship title like Final Fantasy.
It's not like they just said "ok pay us now." They gave us a buttload of their own concept art/documents and a freaking outline of what to expect down the road. No company has ever done that. That deserves my money.
Realtime Worlds went out of business due to APB and weren't able to redo/fix it. It was picked up by Gamersfirst and redone as a free-to-play model game. This is what impresses me most. However, we did get one of the best character creation/customization engines out of it.
You have written it down very nicely and i agree with you that it's a big deal and it'll be something awesome to talk about. However ask yourself this, don't you think it's unfair that the people like me who refuse to pay out of principle (I don't pay for something that openly admitted by the designer, is 50% complete) won't get to experience said events?I see some people complaining about the fees. I hope they realize this next year is a one time deal. We are going to see a brand new game unfold right underneath our own feet. All the event are real time(almost), we are essentially playing a prequel of FFXIV in a beta form. We are really going to give the bards something to sing about.(probably should quote that)So, this is the first time I've seen an mmo do this. . Soo, how I look at it, we are playing a betaish game, that BIG events are going to happen, that we are the only ones EVER going to see it/experience it/feel it. Talk about immersion I say.
You don't pay, you don't play. so, you can't experience nothing. It's a simple concept.Taking WoW as an example, in wotk there was a quest where you must retake the undercity from a betrayal, and as a result the slim non-aggression pact of alliance and horde breaks, leading again to open war. After cataclysm, where said world it's in war, the quest is been removed because obsolete. I can't see anything being more epic than a zombie invasion though. The cut-scenes in FFXIV are really lack-luster, there has only been one I've seen that has good animations and voice acting, and that was, I think, the last story-mission until they pushed me over to ul'dah. You don't pay, you don't play. so, you can't experience nothing.
