What Class to give your retainer?

So what do you guys prefer to set your retainer as? I'm gonna get another one and i can't decide...

I've got two GLD ones to farm some items that i use alot to craft yes i'm lazy... Don't judge me! and one BTN.

Is there any specific ones that is worth chosing over the other since 3.0/3.1?

Make any DoW retainers the same class as your "main" class. This way the retainer level and gear progression keeps up with you easily.
Not that I follow mine own advice. My DoW retainer is LNC; while the first class I level to 50 was a MNK and the first class to 60 was BRD.
My DRG was the 5th class to 50 and 2nd to 60.

gotcha, So after 2 DoW classes, would you say i would benifit more(Gil wise) From a DoW or a DoL ?

MIN, BOT, to start.

Additional ones went DoW, FSH, MIN, DoW, BOT, DoW.

I do not go through enough fish to need a second FSH retainer. Two each of MIN and BOT is generally enough to keep me supplied with most stuff. Sadly, with the 10 item return on the DoW/DoM retainers, it takes 3 to provide equivalent materials for one MIN or one BOT.

I have 4 retainers: pugilist (my main is monk), botanist, miner and fisher.

i have a DoW retainer and a fisher. because monster drops and fish are meh to farm. botanist and miner seems less usefull because any item they can bring i can get by gathering on my own much better and faster.

Personally I think you should go for Min/bot and any DoW/DoM that you have at 60. If you have additional go for another min/bot. Miners/botanists have easy access to crystals and disciples can gain items like Pudding Flesh that you cannot obtain outside of dungeons and are needed 50+.

I'd really love to have a fishing retainer because it just seems so peaceful to imagine him fishing up interesting stuff everytime I send him away
But since fishing is the single most horrible class for me gameplay-wise, that retainer would never see lvl 50, much less 60..

So now I have one wild witty archer catgirl and one soft-spoken, articulate Elezen Arcanist, because I think those classes fit their personalites.
Sadly, that's a decision I made when all my classes were at 50 (so I didn't have to bother which class to pick), but now that's a problem because it's so much work to level SCH/SMN to 60 just so my retainer can level up, too xD
