Been healing as far back as I can remember, even before I got into MMOs I would always pick the healer character.
I just like to help people I guess, and healer is the easiest role to carry a group as in most games, as an added bonus.

The same reason I tank or DPS. Because everyone else is bad and I have to in order to clear content.
Healing usually gets exciting whenever things are going whack. Especially on SCH where you play on your keyboard like a mad person. A particular thing about SCH though is that I get the most information on what's happening during the fight and how's everyone performing. I can usually tell exactly what saved or wiped us, even if it was just a minor thing so we can improve much faster. It's pretty much the backbone of the party.
I guess primarily for me it's just because I know I have decent skills with healers (or generally support classes) and I like to make the most out of that to let my party mates feel safe with me around.
I do have occasional 'oopsies' but I think more often than not my party is pretty happy (I think?) :P
.. and I admit, it does feel nice to be the grim reaper :X
Masochistic tendencies- I also enjoy DF'ing for fun.
Versatility- different play styles/roles or different situations.
Field of view- being able to (in most instances) see what's going on visually and with HP/MP bars.
