why do you heal?

Why do I heal?
Because I have no faith in healers the DF ever places me with. I spend DF runs on dps talking shit out loud to my PC because the Healer is fail. >.> (this might also cause me to level a tank for basically the same reason ;p)
I main heal, because Astrologian is so much FUN!

I heal because I eventually want to max all the jobs in level and healing seems initially less stressful than tanking (Lily aside, there is not need for positioning other than Be close enough to heal), and are excusably Disciplines of Magic I am a fan for astronomy and astrology so AST seems right up my alley, and Starting with BLM (and maining it) I wanted to get WHM done as well so that i can call myself an elementalist, And because I wanted the Royal set from Labyrinth of the Ancients to match the Crimson Set

Plus the Swan/Owl PVP gear might be the best healer glamor in the game (helps that the Swanliege one isn't the stereotypical white, even undyed)

...because I get to decide who lives, and who dies xD... Just kidding when you're on a ball keeping the tank alive, dps topped off, stance dancing and comboing abilities (<3 ast) and the run is noticeably smoother it's a rewarding feeling.

I heal because rotations bore the crap out of me and that's all the other classes seem to be based on. Tanking gives you a bit more freedom but it was still boring and it's not that comfortable to get initial aggro on controller.

Healers get to do a lot of stuff and can even cover for other classes, but no one can take our place. In a game with so little freedom to play how you want, we still have that.

Partly this for me, as well.

I started the game as a Bard, but I knew nothing about rotations or how DPS worked. I got bored and was sick of seeing my tank friend die because healers weren't healing him, so I leveled Conjurer to White Mage and discovered that I absolutely loved it. I didn't zone out like I did while DPSing, and I felt like I could do far more with the job in general. When HW released and I switched to Machinist, I discovered that rotations didn't just bore me -- they lulled me to sleep. Literally. So I had my fun, and I'll always have a DPS class to toy with, but healing is my priority.

In my case.. Why did I heal.

1. Because I've done nothing but that since Phantasy Star Online version 1.
2. It defines one of my core values. I.e. like to help people.
3. I need to go to bed.

5. Largely because of #2, but I am totally in sync with healing. I am comfortable with it.

I learned to WHM because when Titan HM was hard, a competent healer seemed to be the most in-need role on my server for getting clears, and it was such a fun fight. Then I met Holy, and it was love at first sight, nearly dragging me away from my beloved tank.

When HW came around I was burnt out on tanking and decided to heal because I felt like it gave me a better perspective on fights, and offers you a lot of room to support a less-than-great party in DF, meaning few dungeon fails if any (same reason I liked PLD). I picked AST to main because I love support skills

Bard is the only dps class I bothered to level up because it felt the least dependent on rotations, at least for leveling dungeons. It was more fun than most but I still can't get into the whole meta things, and optimization... it puts me to sleep as well. It's much more fun to jump in the battle and adapt on the fly with your tools than trying to follow a script as closely as you can while a bunch of mechanics are thrown at you.

I started with conjurer though because my favourite job in FF is Green Mage and Conjurer felt the closest to it.

I leveled a healer because I wanted at least one of every class role at level cap, to give me some variety when doing tome runs and stuff. I really enjoy it though I consider BLM my main, as a result I only tend to do simple tome grinding or easy raids on healer but I like it and find it relaxing and fun unless I get that horror party that every healer fears.
