why do you heal?

I've always been a fan of the healers in games. They are generally my favourite character and whenever I play a game with my brother I run for the best healer first, generally. Like with Tales of games I play as Natalia, Estelle, Cheria, and Elize. Other Final Fantasy games my favourite characters are people like Garnet (Dagger), Rosa, Vanille, Penelo (best healer in FFXII), Celes (kind of like a Paladin), and Aerith (though my TRUE favourite is Tifa, Aerith is a close second). And in MMOs I always try to focus on being support or healing. It's just something I've always done and always liked.

I won't lie, I became a WHM originally for the robe. On the way, I realized it suited my caring personality (as well as the darker side that loves to rant about the bad things). Aside from making a name for myself in Second Coil as a healer (seriously had a group that insisted on me healing though my main was BRD), I found it fun to learn how to mitigate incoming damage effectively. Almost a game in and of itself to keep people up.

Plus, I enjoy the style moments. Watching people pucker for party wide damage, then they're hit with the Medica/Assize I had ready just as they take damage. It's like, "Damage? Nah bruh. Lace in the place. Feel the heals."

I love the support type roles. I get confused with dps rotations and tanking is just too stressful. I switch between white mage and scholar as the needs of the party arise.

I was a supporter class in ffxi (brd rdm and whm) and started off as mnk in xiv to try something different...but i got lured back to healing and never went back.

I've always played Healer and Support classes in games sometimes I alt a DPS class just to play something different but I just get most enjoyment from being able to micro manage the fight in the background. Often what you do in those roles is subtle and I like being able to plan ahead when I know a fight well. Mostly it's just the feeling of getting things right and knowing people are having fun because they can go all out without worrying about their support not being good. Even if people don't even notice it sometimes I like the feeling of carrying a group through having experience healing especially if it's a new group that are having problems with the fight. People feel good when they achieved something no matter how insignificant it may seem to some and I like that.

I've never liked DPSing in any mmo I've ever played. I just find it so boring and repetitive. Always played heals or tank.

When I knew nothing about the game, I googled what the hardest job in FFXIV was. A lot of the responses were Scholar at that time and so I decided to go with it. Plus they had a pet which made it even more appealing. So I didn't really stumble upon healing cause I enjoyed it, it's just that this was my first MMO and I happened to get into it cause I seeked a challenge. I love it now though, I could never change my job, let alone the role!

I heal because I roleplay. And my character is just the type that would heal. She's no hero, definitely cannot be on the front lines. She is a very reluctant adventurer. She's not aggressive. But she likes it when people depend on her. She likes to help and support. Healing just felt like the right role.
