Go to the Final Fantasy XIV: Mog station.
Sign up for an account.
Login and find the 'Enter recruitment code' option.
Enter a code into it.
And your done~.
Remember that the code must be used before your first paid subscription otherwise you won't be able to get the rewards.

said rewards include -
A 'Friendship circlet', which increases your EXP earned by 20% when below the level 25.
'Ballroom Etiquette - Improper greeting', which when used gives you a fist-bump emote.
99 Aetheryte tickets, which means 99 free teleports.
10 silver Chocobo feathers, which can be traded with the Calamity Salvager NPCs for some special items.
