Amen, it's impossible to inform the ignorant.I thought about trying to pound some facts into the OP, but really, why bother?
This thread now contains 40% righteous indignation, 30% actual knowledge, 20% trolling, and 10% of OP and various posters who embarrasses other PC gamers by having such piss-poor understanding of modern games and hardwares.
OP you need to make a sign that reads "Down with consoles because I don't understand them" and go stand in downtown Tokyo (Let's call it Occupy Tokyo)
Please give me your gil and gear first cause, you gonna die B.
Even though I agree SE is limiting their game (but not with graphic quality), I don't agree with the OP saying that it's a bad move. They can always port it over to a new console when it comes out. Right now they need the PS3 version released to reach a larger audience. Taking that decision back would be stupid on their part. Regardless of the PS3's age, it's still the most popular gaming medium in various areas of the world, including Japan.
In addition, I don't have a source because it was I think two years ago... or it might have been last year and I am too lazy to sift through all of that information to find it. But at one of the recent past E3s I remember Sony saying PS4 will not be a replacement to PS3, but rather a console they intend to co-exist on the market, and will use the 3D technology Sony has been pushing with their TVs. As to whether or not that has changed, I don't know. But it's something to think about, I guess.
please learn when to use the word "fanboy" before using it.
Many of us here understand how consoles work in comparison to PC, consoles have always had lower specs then their current PC counterparts. Games that run on consoles use much less resources then on PC comparatively. The games are programed and designed around the hardware for that consoles and there for can take full advantage of it.
Well I do see some people that agree with that I HAVE TO say that the limited memory the PS3 has might limit the game in the future. Do you agree on this?
PS3's small memory size will present some challenge esp. in regards to texture and such, but ultimately it's no different than the challenge of making sure the game works on lower end machines.
but you'd know that already if you'd bothered to read our earlier posts and tried to educate yourself.
and no, it's not going to "limit" the game, nada, zero, especially in the manner in which you're implying it would, which is some sort of physical impossibility that cannot be overcome. Will it take extra resource to address the issue? yes, which means extra development cost and time, which is more than made up by the extra revenues that will be brought in with the much larger user base.
It is going to "limit" the game if it requires extra work/resources to accomplish a simple task, like making the world seamless, or giving out extra inventory space. Remember when Yoshi-P talked about dying equipment and how what they want to do is impossible to do with the PS3 because of memory limitations, so to work around it they have to create completely unique models for every color because the PS3 cannot handle recoloring equipment with dyes?PS3's small memory size will present some challenge esp. in regards to texture and such, but ultimately it's no different than the challenge of making sure the game works on lower end machines.

Or how about when they released the game with a seamless world, but in order to do so used copy/paste tiles because the PS3 cannot load a seamless world + equipment + player characters without using a tiling system where the same tiles are reused over and over resulting in a copy/pasted environment?
Or how about how they have to be cautious when giving us features like addons because the PS3 couldn't support them?
Or how they have to design two completely independent control schemes for the game because you can't expect every PS3 user to go buy a kb/mouse?
The list goes on...
Yes, the PS3 does limit the game. Does it halt production of some things? No, but when the developers have to take an unconventional/more expensive path to implement a standard MMO feature, then that's a limitation according to merriam-webster.
Some of these things could very well be incompetence from the original dev team, but you can't say making this game cross platform doesn't limit it, because it does. You're right they will be able to work around most of it, but surely there will be cases where they aren't.
This whole debate is pointless, though, because this game needs the PS3 audience regardless of whether or not it's limited. And as long as they do a good job, most people shouldn't even notice the limitations.
to the OP YOU OBVIOUSLY ARE A PS3 HATER AND SHOULD NOT BE ALOWED TO VOICE YOUR BIASED OPINION no game yet has even come close to reaching the ps3 potential and thx to the poster who pointed out the abilaty to upgrade ps3 hdd and the fact they come with big hdd's standard and FUCK XBOX
IM A PROUD AND HAPPY PS3 ower you ignorant fool.
I have been a supporter of the PS family since the PSx DAYS. I started FF11 on the PS2 and when I made the transition to PC I saw many advantages.
And like the smart poster before you, it was mentioned how the PS3 does limit this game. My POINT proven.
AT this point, launching the GAME on the PS3 is NECESSARY to reach out more audience and hope to have this game succeed. And many of the things CHANGED to this game will be made around the PS3 to optimize it and be able to gives access to to this game to all those of us who own a ps3.
Heck, I WILL EVEN buy the game on the PS3 MYSELF, and well, in about 4 - 5 years when the system start getting really old, you will start seeing the limitations and memory buts that will happen

There will be no limitations for the ps3 relase on this game. The ps3 has a massive graphics engine and processing speed (not to mention, able to hold its own on blue-ray graphics and resolutions specs).
I for one welcome the release of the ps3 version. Not because i have a ps3 myself, but i welcome more people to trael this world with.
