The way the Favour System is written up originally is obviously farcical, but the base idea is honestly a pretty good one I think. Mary Sue-ish? Yeah, probably, but I'm not sure it really matters since it wouldn't affect other players and it'd be a chance for writing teams to flesh out any character involved in such a system significantly.
There's a *lot* of potential variance from one set of events to another, too which would give players something to talk about, especially if choosing one character to pursue is a commitment of sorts. You could have them be more dialogue/choice heavy for some of them, or more stuff that isn't combat in general
tl;dr while some people would use it purely as Waifu Simulator, I do think there's a real opportunity for some depth in it.
