Popular ones have been HNM's, Sky/Sea like areas, and a Dynamis like instance. We have two out of the three and both didn't turn out exactly the way developers expected it to.I've heard a request for FFXI-styled content, but not Dynamis specifically. I could almost see wanting the old Dynamis with its structured order and pulling methods, but what it became later on is exactly what we have here: an ultimately mindless experience that you just do for the loot. I don't think it to be unreasonable to have wanted Diadem to have had a bit of sky in it with pop items, sea with its tiered NMs, or ToAU's ZNM system. Anything to create some order and have actual objectives to work toward rather than just hit the things until the things you want to hit spawn.
We wre discussing this a few days ago with FC. The biggest issue we have is the objectives. It's sad that after 3 are done we can't continue with the others.
Also, most of the farm parties don't even bother with them.
We would like to be able to continue to do more of the objectives.
with that, a change in how rank 5 and S appear would be nice. For example, monsters can drop a treasure map, with the same system we already have, you get a chest from the map, you try to open it and a monster appears that you need to kill to get the chest. Make it that completing objectives also gives treasure maps.
And having a actual alliance like in void ark when you go as a premade with FC airship would be nice.
I was thinking something like this too.
But instead add in random objections that last 10-20 minutes. Say for example.
Kill a x amount of x.
Find a V rank mob and kill it.
Find and engage a star rank. With a bonus of kill star rank.
Have party gather x amount of items.
Each would give a x% chance to get gold chests. I also like the idea to have gathers give buffs from gathering.

would be a great idea, and would still give the grind they are going for, gear is dropped as templates as that you use tokens to add stats to, they can make stat caps just like the relic upgrade for novus which will let people make their own bis gear but they would still have to put in the work so its not extremely fast progression

Well, you heard it. No change for gatherer's in Diadem and sick of waiting hours to try to have a PF to fill, so to DF it is. If DF has a problem, clearly they should have just used PF. Yoshi even said so.Also, by separating the matchmaking system by objective, we would need to make extensive changes to the system, which would be difficult to achieve within the Patch 3.1 series. If you feel that you absolutely must avoid being matched with players with different objectives, we ask that you please use the Party Finder to form parties.

Would it be possible to implement a gathering class queue for Duty Finder Diadem runs? Players would get flying off the start, but be locked into only being on gathering classes. Have it reward no eso and something like 50 red scrips of gathering, which is slightly more than you can get in 9mins from 9:00 - 11:55 am/pm Eorzea Time for those that don't know. This way gatherers could go about their business without getting harassed for doing so by people on combat classes and people on combat classes wouldn't have to worry about gatherers not passing on loot that drops from monsters.
Edit: I ran out of space 2. is in the next post

Would it be possible to make it so that when a person finds a treasure chest from spawned from their own gathering activities that they receive the loot? Unlike gear drops, no one is even allowed to make the conscious decision to pass on these drops and let the finder have their loot. The most irritating part is when the combatant that complains the hardest about gatherers have the opportunity to roll (or pass) on loot gets a piece of Purified Coke from a chest a gatherer finds. One Purified Coke and items like it each cost 8 brass coins from the vender (or 1800 Law in Idyllshire). It would be less unfair if it was at least put in with the other loot to be rolled/passed on.
This is precisely why they need to separate queue. You dont want us to roll for the same reason we dont want you to roll. Expect a shitstorm if they made gatherer chest exclusive to gatherer and did not do the same for combat chest.2.

I'm gonna throw this idea here and see if it gets any traction.
When you first enter Diadem, there should be an NPC that allows you to set your "Objective" on why you are there.
Battle=+1 party member and a 10% stat boost/inability to lot on gather chest
Gathering=Inability to lot on battle chest but your gather chest belong to you
Basically for those who just want to fight as long as the others aren't just out to gather you could have a party of 8 with just 4 members with that status effect but the above is something that would only be applicable in the Ishgard side of Diadem or just Easy/Normal mode.
I feel a simple change like this would help to prevent the hostility created through people with different objectives, if Battle/Gather both want to do different things, they have the ability and those with battle can set themselves to battle and be counted as an additional party member when it comes to getting credit on chest.
I don't think it's translation errors so much as SE being a predominantly Japanese company, with the core FFXIV development being done in Japan, is thinking in terms of and are catering to the Japanese approach to MMOs, which can essentially be summarized by the term "grind-fest." While Japanese (and Asian generally) MMO playerbases historically don't mind grinds, North American players are principally concerned about expediency - the only real question NA playerbase is asking of Diadem is "how fast can I get some better gear?" NA players don't like bouncing off gatekeepers whose purpose is literally nothing more than to slow access to content, so making any changes that slow things down is not going to go over well.

Why not make a eward system or actually make it a party of gatherers can "Hire" a party of combatants to protect them getting loot that's shared but also getting loot that's specific for the role of combat or gathering? That'd be neat i think.
