Kinda confused on this too. Other games do maintenance based on platform to stagger things, so I'm not sure why it can't be done for different data centers.
If anything, it would be good as if they see an issue, they don't need to worry about every server.

Clearly, the best Final Fantasy character is Locke Cole.

SE doesn't have to release games at all and just go bankrupt.
They didn't release an English version to do us a favour, they did it to make money. If it wasn't available in the west they wouldn't even be able to fund their development team. I believe they said they need 400-500k to keep it going, while the estimated number is around 600k.
The maintenance time really doesn't bother me but I wish they would alternate it for different times every other time they run maintenance.
So, one day it's inconvenient for day users, and the the next it's inconvenient for the night users and then just rotate.
I understand why they don't, but it would be kind of nice just so on SOME maintenance days I could actually get a chance to play.
Either way, it's nice to see them continue to update and patch as soon as they can.
Maybe for data centres specific maintenance (to fix server problems), but for "all world" maintenances (bugfixes and patches, things that changes something ingame) they will use the same time they alway used for "all world" maintenances.I know this has been said before mainly back in 2.0 when the game was growing, but now in 3.0 the game has undoubtedly grown in the NA servers. However, currently NA maintenance is scheduled in PST like it was in 2.0 but the problem is the server gets shutdown during peak hours. Back in 2.0 I could understand since there was less people so the population would dwindle down a bit more quickly. I can only speak for Jenova, but the server is very much alive during 9pm PST as well as the duty finder for Aether. Wouldn't it be more feasible as the game grows to look at population data and adjust to do all non major patches during early morning PST? Say roughly 2am? I mean we've already seen a data center be created for EU players, so would a simple change of hours really be out of the question?

It's not just JP vs NA, there are also players from other parts of Asia, Oceania and European time zones (including Africa). NA is the only region affected during prime time and it's better to inconvenience the smallest amount of players. This conversation will continue on until the game ends eventually. But my two cents is why can we not "trade off" who gets screwed over on the maintenance times? Why does it always have to be NA PST that get screwed?? How about we alternate it every other time so it is at least "fair". I don't even care about the whole reset thing because I don't wait until the last minute to cap but I just would like all the players to share the down time. I know they made the game and it is Japan and all but this is clearly favoring "their" players since they are never "jacked" on their play time...not really cool.
Moving the maintenance back a few hours could be a good idea though. Then it would affect NA late in the afternoon and early evening, JP in the late morning and early afternoon and EU during the night. (Let me know if I miscalculated.) No major region would be unable to play during prime time and it would still be within normal office hours for the devs.

its based of japanese work times not ours. if it was warcraft we might stand a chance #bring samurai to 14
The maintenance time may be inconvenient to you in the PST, but as someone just two hours later here in CST, it's the perfect time slot for me. If I wasn't off work tomorrow, (well okay, today at this point), then the maintenance would be going on while I was sleeping, starting at about the time I'd have gone to bed. It may be a slightly bad time for you starting at 9pm, but for roughly 95% of the playerbase, it's either during hours when the majority of players in each time zone would be going to bed, asleep, or at work/school. Frankly, they couldn't have picked a much better time slot. Just because you're in that small section of players that it's at a bad time for, doesn't mean they should put you above all the other players across the globe.....
lol it is perfect for me here in europe, meint is always from arround 5 in the morning to 10 in the morning, so no thx, i don't want it changed at all ^_^
It's perfect for me in EST as well. Starts at midnight, which is the absolute latest I should ever be up. I usually log off by 11PM anyway.
PST gets the shaft with it t 9PM, but as everyone else has pointed out, it has more to do with Japan's working day than when they expect NA to go to sleep. SE's NA office is in California, so they're hit with the 9PM time as well.
