In what universe is FFXIV tanking or healing hard in any way, or full of responsibility? The tanking and healing mechanics are so simple that 90% of the time, if you only focus on holding aggro or healing, you're simply being lazy. It's like a DRG that spams its True Thrust combo, or a BLM that doesn't use Enochian, or a BRD that only uses Heavy Shot: it gets the job done but you're contributing less than half of what you actually could.
That doesn't mean you should be ending a boss fight with 1.2k dps, but if you only ever just stay in tank stance and use your enmity combo (or spam Cure on a healer) you're not playing your job properly.
You're right its not hard. But its defiantly harder and more responsibility to tank and put out high dps than it is to just dps and not get hit by mechanic damage. But lets argue about a invisible measure of difficulty based on opinion, that seems legit right?
I agree with you. But what im seeing more and more is people setting dps expectations for tanks. If they aren't meeting some number that the other dps think they should be meeting. Their dps is by no means bad but just not up to par with what the others think it should be.
At that point its a wtf moment and no longer a what now but a are you kidding me? Though alot of that comes from getting stuck with some kids that think they are gods gift to this game.
Alot of that comes from talks in these forums and others where you have some fully geared tank spouting off about how a tank isn't good unless he can do 1.2k dps or something like that. Then you get a ripple effect of expectations of people that have read those discussions.
