Do we want FFXI glamor items?

What do you guys think?

Personally, I've been disappointed with most of the equipment choices for levels 1-50 (although this issue doesn't really tie into the topic), and some of the best memories I have from FFXI was being proud of the armor I worked for pre-endgame in the leveling grind, and knowing how cool cool I looked. If I had a scorpion harness at level 55, everyone knew I was a badass for the 20 more levels left until 75.

Again, the previous statement has nothing to do with the issue I want to introduce. I don't think SE should retool the 1-59 equipment to have cross-class utility, crazy stats, and torturous demands to be obtained.

I would love to be able to recapture the nostalgia though with some new gear patterned after FFXI "classics". I've been thinking about this idea for a while, but since the latest FFXI-FFXIV crossover event, I feel like wind might just be right for SE to seriously entertain it.

What would you FFXI veterans like to see? I can think of a few:


Brigandine (Lv45 body) - I know it seems like an unimportant choice, but I LOVED the way it looked, and even wore in lieu of better gear for that reason.


Haubergeon/Hauberk/Adaman Hauberk - Does anyone else take issue with the armors bearing the same name in FFXIV looking like frumpy sacks in EVERY incarnation? I know the FFXIV chain armor looks more "historically-correct", but come on! Bonus? Give us the sollerets and mufflers from FFXI sets too.

FFXI Job Artifact Sets - I know a lot of them looked a bit dopey, but it'd be cool to be able to mix and match them a bit. Also, what happened to the THF AF-ish armor we see in the Rogue quests?

You can put most of the THF-looking set together using crafted items, though the hat isn't quite right (substituting a dyed lower level hat can make it work). But I agree, some of the old FFXI AF was beautiful and it would look great in XIV. After the feeling of getting my WHM AF legs in XI I felt pretty disappointed when the XIV version was a pair of white boxer shorts and some go-go boots.

One of the aesthetic choices I liked in XI was that simple tunics like those in the Noble's and Seer's sets had very ornate designs, which made them look luxurious even with the game's unsophisticated models. Because my XIV character is quite tall a lot of the impact from some of the plainer outfits is lost stretched across his endless shoulders. The more elaborate robes look fantastic. I'd like to see us getting more robes and tunics like that. And basically anything from Aht Urhgan because all of those cultural influences led to some gorgeous outfits.

Depends on the armour, I've never played FFXI nor do I intend to, but when I google FFXI armour I think "This looks awful", and I think a lot of that might apply to people not overwhelmed with nostalgia. Obviously google isn't going to display the best looking armour sets, so maybe link some for us non-FFXI players?

Well after taking a look at the ones that been posted, they're all rather bland (apart from this one). I don't know, it feels like they're just below the visual design of FFXIV leveling gear, I see no reason to implement gear from FFXI when the FFXIV artists are far more talented. Of course it boils down to opinion, but does anyone who isn't filled with nostalgia believe these look better than most FFXIV gear, excluding leveling subligars and whatever?

I somewhat agree. Especially since many were simply reskinned designs.

Apart from some selective gear sets, the only ones I truly care to see return are various artifact, relic, and empyrean sets. Especially the ones that have different aesthetics than the XIV counterparts (WHM, SMN, BLM, SCH's empyrean, etc.)

They might not be as nearly as polished and detailed as the newer counterparts, but I think a lot of players would appreciate them for the nostalgia factor; especially if they received good model retouching.

The Igqira set was always a favorite, but I didn't play a BLM so I never got the chance to wear it :[




Also, the BLU AF. One of the best in the game.

Barone Corazza Set - Oh my lord, google it right now if you don't know what it looks like. So gorgeous. And 'gorgeous' isn't a word I use willy-nilly as a manly, blood-thirsty WAR. Screw it, I'm just going to take the time to insert pictures of the gear for you now.

Kirin Osode/Byakko Haidate/Ohwhynotletsjustputinallthegodgearwhilewe'reatit - Byakko Haidate are at the forefront of my mind here. I miss it and all the similarly modeled shorts that hung loosely over my boots.

Sipahi Gear - I was excited when I saw a gear labeled "Sipahi" dropping in 2.X endgame dungeons, then so disappointed when I put it on.

You can probably tell from the lack of mage gear the jobs I played in FFXI.

Check out the level 50 item level 110 tank and drg sets (Wootz). There are also subligars and harnesses a-plenty in the mid low-to-mid level range. /o/
