Unfair for people in smaller FC's taking a break. Especially if someone can't add others in. This is not the kind of play that YoshiP envisions. The restriction, or at least some restriction like it, is necessary to discourage people from using it as a personal workshop. It's fine as it is. If you can't get four people together to sit in the workshop, you're an FC in name only anyway. If anything, I think they should increase the stringency of the requirement such that the four people all have to belong to the FC.

As I said, I don't consider an FC incapable of getting four people together to be an FC in any meaningful sense in the first place, so it's not unfair since they don't matter.
You could have 300 people in a FC but if all but 2 take a break for Chrismas then what? Or, imagine the people who were caught in the hurricanes. I've been in location specific FCs. Oops guess my friend's FC isn't up to snuff by your standards because they can't get together the 4 our of the 5 or so people for 1 occasion of putting together a submarine, guess they gotta disband and delet their house too.
FCs are not obligated to be big or small. You are being biased, unfair as well as showing a crystal clear lack of empathy and understanding.

I don’t think requiring the 4 people to be in the actual FC is going to help this. I think it would honestly make it worse—especially for the smaller FCs that don’t have a large crafter-base to pick from. The restriction, or at least some restriction like it, is necessary to discourage people from using it as a personal workshop. It's fine as it is. If you can't get four people together to sit in the workshop, you're an FC in name only anyway. A lvl 1 crafter is enough. If just unlocking one is too much effort then the fc is in a sorry state indeed.
I would still prefer the party requirement to be eliminated though.

The FC I was in before I made my own had myself and another person as the main crafters. We had 4 people that were active, with one signing in not as often as the other three. We had no desire to add in more people because this was a circle of friends who just wanted an FC together. With the proposed “all 4 must be in the same FC”, we wouldn’t have been able to utilize the workshop at all. Sorry, but I just think that’s a silly requirement. I don’t like the current one since I have to harass friends to come stand AFK while I put mats into the machine. It’s not really a collaborative effort, despite them wanting to give it the illusion of such.

And what if you have a small FC intended for you a handful of friends, none of whom are available for one reason or another? The requirement alone is already dumb. There is precisely zero reason to make FC only. Just remove it entirely.
Why does it matter though? If only I want to work on the workshop, why do I need to bother other people for my projects? People who want to use it as a personal workshop can easily get around the restrictions. It's literally just an annoyance at this point not a deterrent. The restriction, or at least some restriction like it, is necessary to discourage people from using it as a personal workshop. I was max level crafter, having never used/ helped with the workshop. When I was asked to help I was like, oh cool this will be interesting. It....just wasn't. Had to keep the conversation going while watching paint dry. It felt so unnecessary. My FC has a workshop and a wheel table, but getting 4 people to be in the workshop to craft a wheel each time we need one is getting tedious.
I feel like the wheels would get much more use if we didn't need 4 people in the workshop to complete the simple craft (that along with some buffs that make grade 3 ones worth it, although a dev did say something about changing that for the future).
In fact, the whole 4 people in the workshop thing is pretty annoying in general. I wish the requirement was removed for all workshop crafts.
I mean people can still work as a group to contribute materials, but if one guy finishes a section he shouldn't have to wait until people are on and not in a dungeon to move to the next step.
It's a weak way to discourage it.The restriction, or at least some restriction like it, is necessary to discourage people from using it as a personal workshop. It's fine as it is. I easily could have turned my alt's FC into a private workshop when the rest of the FC had stopped playing if I had wanted to.
I know another player on the server who does use his as a private workshop, making airship and sub parts to sell to other FCs who don't make their own for whatever reason.
SE doesn't seem to feel the same way as you when it comes to how many members a FC should have to be considered a FC.
To just sit in the workshop and do nothing, sure. But a level 1 crafter can't contribute materials to a project. You've got to have the class and level specified on the fabricator to add the material.
It was ironic last year when my FC leader had to trade a bunch of steel ingots to my alt to add to the fabricator. He was level 70 BSM at the time and had made the ingots himself. The fabricator was requiring level 26 ARM, which he hadn't unlocked let alone leveled.
It's a rather nonsensical restriction to have, and probably contributes to the lack of workshop use as much as anything else. Hard for a FC to use a workshop when they don't have players with the right level DOH classes to add materials even though they can easily go to the marketboard and vendors to buy those materials regardless of their job.
But it does a great job of making private workshops profitable for omnicrafters. Just pay random players some gil to afk in the workshop and make those parts to sell to the FCs who lack members with the needed DoH jobs.

I might be getting old and unwelcome opinion, but i though the whole FC idea is getting ppl together like a guild or family.I don't get it, why it is tedious.
In our FC our Craft Master let out a shout in the FC-Chat and there are always enough replies, except there are not enough people online of couorse, happens sometime.
For smaller FCs use PF, but there is a minimum of 4 people to etablish a FC, so it's most a problem of coordination.
If you don't get enough people who help in your FC, they don't deserve level III guild buffs or airship content or everything, wihich is related to the workshop.
And if it's a too high requirement to have a level 1 crafter and just pause the daily grinding for 5 minutes to complete some prepaired crafts, then it's beyond help.
I do believe some change is needed, like having something allow all 4 player to engage in the process instead of just sitting there, and may be allow DoW/DoM/DoL to join the process as well. However, I don’t see any good reason to drop the 4 people minimum limit. If a FC can’t even gather 4 players...hum...is it really a FC or just an upgrade linkshell?
