    v.2.0 - Likes/Dislikes?

I'm more excited than disappointed. Essentially, we are being asked to pay a monthly fee to continue playing a game we already enjoy, while being promised some rather exciting changes and improvements.

I understand that some people don't want to pay a monthly fee for the game in its current state. I also understand that some people who have expressed discontent at the arrival of a monthly fee would never pay for the game anyways, even if it were vastly improved.

Since the announcement, I've been giddy at the prospect of a 2.0. It's the same feeling I get when I see an announcement that a game from my childhood is getting a remake. There's a sense of hope and excitement, and just a little bit of anxiety caused by the desire to see it done correctly.

Other than the monthly fee, what are you excited and/or disappointed about in regards to the coming changes?

TL;DR: Other than the monthly fee, what are you excited and/or disappointed about in regards to the coming changes?

Dislikes: Monthly fee, possible disappointment, loading screens for different locations, MAYBE the job system; gotta see more on that.

    Dislike:
    ● Jobs to progress by clearing quests rather than gaining EXP.

This is probably the only change that has me worried.

Thats how the job system was always going to be. Unless you are confusing jobs with classes. You still have to gain xp to level the class the job goes with. The job will be whatever level the class is. Then you do quests to get better skills for the job. I like that idea.

I posted before that I was willing to sacrifice area seamlessness for interesting, diversified zones. I stand by that. However, I'd be lying if I said I wasn't hoping that they could manage to give us diversified zones as well as seamlessness.

I'm really excited for everything that 2.0 promises to bring, and I think the new area designs look fantastic. Really fantastic. But I am disappointed that we'll have loading screens between areas. It really makes me feel like I'm a part of the world when I can travel from place to place and watch the scenery change as I go. WoW, with its seamless zone transitions, may not look all that pretty, but it was released many years ago. I was hoping that modern technology would allow us to stream diverse environments that are as detailed as those in Final Fantasy 14.

Since seamless areas are a no-go, I hope that the distance that's "skipped" upon changing areas is as short as possible. I'd like to see signs that I'm at the transition to a new environment when I approach the zone line. I really hope I won't see desert, then five seconds of black, then lush, green forest in version 2.0.

Once again, I'd like to repeat that I'm elated that we'll be getting such interesting zones. Redesigning Eorzea is a huge undertaking, and I appreciate that the XIV team is putting in such enormous effort to make it a truly amazing world. I'm just a little sad that it's going to be segmented by black screens and "Now Loading" messages.

    I am completely blown away.

    For starters the new jobs
    - Their looks are amazing, they have a lot more exclusive styles and they are true to the original style of Final Fantasy.
    - AF gear is nice touch if it works like FFXI or better, spending time on challenging quests to receive the ultimate gear for each class at that lvl and timeline.
    - Quests to gain more abilities and attributes is a nice temporary end-game system.

Housing, Mail system, Item sending system, a further improved market system - do I even need to comment this? High demand for those.

Redesigning the zones, UI and new graphics engine - Variation and smoother performance are always appreciated.

Overall I almost shat when I saw the lodestone articles today, that was alot of info at once and most of it looks great. I will need to re-read several times to digest it all. Offhand though.

    • Zone Size: Based on the maps having grids, if we assume grids are the same size on those maps as they currently are with the in-game maps the zones seem much smaller.
    • Load Screens: Load screens within zones I am not a fan of, but I guess it makes it easier for PS3 to handle and lets face it, this game needs PS3 launch to survive
    • Pay to Play: On the fence about whether its time or not to pay to play, but I will pay as I enjoy the game, I just think there needs to be more done before its retail wo
    rthy yet.

    • Zone Red-Designs: Oh hell yes do they look awesome or what? Snow areas finally eff yeah! The landmarks and scenery is friggin gorgeous, it actually screams FF to me, finally!
    • Housing: Eff Yeah!
    • Recreation of Character: Wooo. Female Roeg here I come, that would have been my choice if I had the option to start originally.
